Could anyone help me find out which synths are used in this song? :) The album is from 1987. I'm especially interested in the intro pad/bell and flute, and the plucks coming in at 1:15.

Here's a photo of Mrs. Yabuki…you don't see a lot of the keyboards, but maybe it helps:

Sound from the intro is so simple & basic, it could be any synth. Slow LFO to pitch for the vibrato effect.
Those plucks sound like a real harp (with delay)

It's a Yamaha DX7 or one of its many variants. The koto/harp has all the hall marks of Yamaha's VL engine.

Thanks for the reply guys! I wouldn't have guessed DX7, it sounded somehow like a D50 to me (which was released the same year). Maybe my expectations towards the DX7 were too limited/negative, it seems to be really versatile.

Here's a very good free Yamaha DX7 emulation that can even load (thousends of) DX7 sysex/patches.

Digital Suburbamn - Dexed.

And...yes, there's a lot of sounds that you can only achieve with FM (in most cases actually PM). That's due to the unique spectral modulations. A valueable addtition to your toolkit.

Thanks! By PM I assume you're referring to Phase Modulation?
