Hello all,

I am always on the hunt for deals and/or tools for my toolbox that I don't currently have. I came across sugar bytes "unique synthesizer" which is based on formant filters, and I saw a youtube video and loved how it sounded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO_uxiymr_c

That being said, it still wasn't enough for me to buy it, but it DID get me thinking about formant filters, and my lack of one. Now I'm not shy about spending money on a quality plugin, but from my simple google searches I only came across some really basic ones. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if it means I'm spending 20$ instead of 100$, but I thought I would ask the experts if you could make me any recommendations on some GOOD formant/vowel filters.

Xfer Serum FX module, it has great formant filters.

What you're looking for would be the Rolls Royce Formant/Vowel Filter. Sadly discontinued in 1932.

Don't know about RollsRoyce, but this one is definitely the best I could find.

Currently 30% off.

- highly configurable in the very formants section
- 3 simple but effective lfos
- you can also automate the "XY pad" in the middle (I put that in quotes because those are actually 3 parameters instead of 2 involved in the automation writing, although you operate it as an XY pad essentially).

The only thing I wish it had, would be some sort of midi triggered envelope.

Sugar Bytes Wow2. Might be the Volvo of formant filters, but it does the job for me! Other filter types and distortions are nice, and the mod system is awesome.

If you use Ableton, the free Max4Live formant filter from Robert Henke is the best i've found and I've tried them all.

Serum / LFO Tool, The Orb and Wow2 are all decent options though.

The best i've ever heard is the vowel filter in D16 LuSH-101. Got some scarily realistic sounds out of it...

Discovery Pro has formant filters which can be modulated by 2 LFOs as well as morphing via MIDI velocity, aftertouch, etc. I wouldn't call those the Rolls Royce of formant filters but they got some praise on the psytrance scene so it's worth checking out.

Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

+1. Plus the extra midi tools in LFO Tool are great to play with

This for £10 sounds good. I don't have it myself, so can't say if it's really Rolls Royce or not.

+1 for Xfer LFOtool & Serum FX, those have a really nice filter selection including a few formant, multiple flanges and some comb-type models.
