I was just using etch as a distortion box for ages, until I happened across a video that went into the modulation system more in depth. Can't find the vid I watched but this just goes into the basics from about 1.30-5.15, didn't expect them to abandon it due to etch red on reason.

Another plugin that might be a replacement for the distortion section on camelphat is rx950, warm sounding and quite cheap and model after the ad/da converter of the akai 950.

That is a good tutorial , thanks.

If you visit FXPansions site, and see the legacy collection plugins, there is an image of Etch with a GUI i've not seen before, https://fxpansion.com/legacyproducts/ , you ever seen that GUI before ?

They seem to have the Etch and Bloom GUIs mixed up

Shows how much of a fu ck FXP give over abandoned products that were dropped with no warning ie no fu ck at all. Unlike camel who gave months of warning.

Post

Yes, dropped without warning. That's the reason i never bought from FXP again.

What would a warning achieve in this case? You can still download it, install it and license it. There's just no more updates.

I see it now, top right hand corner. Explains why I am looking at etch going "Where are my damn dials!"

Yes Tritik Krush Pro seems like a decent replacement and it's now M1 native as well. I'll test and compare it further

For my personal I’ve made some presets in unfiltered audio triad/byome. The tape sat does a good approximation of the distortion, the bit crunch is far superior and the filters do the job (needs a notch filter tho). There’s a particular distortion module that does a good job of excitation too (contour I think?) and the modulation options are much better.

Minimal Audio's Rift 2 covers a lot of the same territory, plus a lot more. I love using it as a creative effect that can completely alter the source material. Drawing modulation shapes is super quick and easy. It has really become an indispensable tool for processing drums and synth bass. And I use it more than I use Logic's built-in effects. So it also helps that it runs pretty smooth on my iMac. :tu:

but didn't really get many giggles for CPhat - don't miss that

I think I'm using Izo Trash2 if I'm reaching for the dirty these days

Honestly, I think people are missing the point. CamelPhat wasn't JUST about distortion.

I produce Deep Minimal DnB, and artists have used that plugin to DEATH because of it's Modulation and sound shaping ability. While it may not seem that cool to many, you've gotta look at the bigger picture. It gets used in conjunction with other modulation plugins giving a sound more depth.

I tried reaching out to Steve Duda cause he ripped the Dimension expander out of NI massive, to which he replied that it's so easy I could do it myself - yeah, not when I'm visually impaired I can't loool.

Idk if this is really an argument nowadays... there are so many great plugins on the market going miles beyond of what CamelPhat/ Space ever offered... in terms of modulation as well as everything else...

Shaperbox, Thermal, Rift 2, kiloHearts, Unfiltered Audio, Arturia, Serum FX, Rapid FX, Synthmaster as an effect, etc...etc... the list is endless...

+100 for Shaperbox! Or just get Logic Pro which has Phat FX which is what the new CamelPhat has become after Camel Audio was bought by Apple.
