2 questions here. Firstly what's a good delay plugin that's cheap?

Secondly what do you look for in a good delay for dance music? Tape delay aside, what makes one delay better than another?

Depending on your DAW, you could be already served. Which DAW are you using?

"cheap" can be a very broad thing, because it ranges from "free" to "best bang for the buck" which can go well into $100+ for fully-featured versatile plugin :)

Anyway, here's a list of free delays: https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2011/0 ... t-plugins/

Most DAWs will already have a good to great native delay, that you can typically sync to the tempo which would be a minimum requirement for dance music. Options to have ping-pong delay (alternating delay taps in left/right channel), some kind of filtering for the further taps and ducking against the dry signal would be great to have as well - they're either there directly, or can be pieced together by chaining devices (e.g. in Bitwig, Live or Reason).

ValhallaDelay, of course.

For dance music, there are 3 must haves in a delay (and they are mostly already covered by your DAW´s stock plugins):

1. PingPong mode
2. dotted values
3. HP filter (while this could be done in the DAW too...)

Everything else doesn´t really matter as the mixes are too dense to noticed much tonal differences if it is an emulation of ABC blablabla

Special delay plugins for sounddesign/experimental stuff are different of course... if you are looking for such stuff wait till Melda Production MTurboDelay is on sale... this is the most versatile soundmangling delay on the market as it covers spectral parts too

The one in your DAW is probably already great for this task

The new ValhallaDelay is a great allrounder with great sound for a great price, but demo first if you really need it.
Always remeber: less is often more, you don't need numerous tools that do the same (even though i'm a delay slut myself, i could actually do with just one 99% of the time)

and in addition to the features Trancit stated, i'd add ducking as a very handy feature if you like to work with inserts and don't want to use sends for everything
The GAS is always greener on the other side!

kiloHeart's Delay is free (as are 3-band EQ, Chorus, Gain, Limiter & Stereo snapins) so grab it together with free SnapHeap to play with parallel FX chains :)

The OP has 4 posts in total, 4 different threads, asking 4 diffrent things. He/She never comes back to even thank for the tips. Why even bother replying to these kinds of threads?

These "best fx" posts are really tedious. "Best" is totally subjective. These people are just too lazy to do a bit of research, or even to try out different products to see what works well for them.
