Note that Melda will very soon also be announcing a MIDI CC modulating device, which will be simpler looking, less money, and less bells and whistles, but I bet quite equally powerful.

Still, this looks really intriguing!
Decisions to make by Zenith's -30% sale ending 12-2-19?
I may just take my chances with the Melda "MIDI CC modulating device".
I have a few days to decide.

David, Great informative post! thanks.

As for MidiMadness will buy if ever under $45.
12-2-19 ?

Where did you see that?

I believe I saw sale on during the Holiday week or something simialr.
So I estimated 12-2-19 and then added the question mark.
12-2- is Cyber Monday.
Would be great if we had an accurate dead line for the sale.

get Scaler for $29 and upgrade to V2 on 1-16-19

Does anyone have a consensus on the melody makers (Midi Madness, Melody Sauce, Riffer) discussed in this post?
I think Reason Studios have a specific one as well...Would like to have something a bit more tame than the RPG8 :)

Oh yeah, has any Reaktor ensembles bee suggeted?
I thought I may have purchased this one below, but the author seems to be out of biz. It worked well as I can remember :(

AFAIC, the consensus on MIDI Magic is that it's over-priced even at $59. It's cool enough, but there's many cooler things that cost less and do MUCH more.

And overall, I think the random melody maker that's so far gotten the most love, here anyway, is Harvest.

My own opinion is that you owe it to yourself and your $$ to do the work of watching the tutorials and visiting the sites to compare features and get a feel for the one/s that resonate/s best with YOU.

Fwiw, I'll also offer the personal opinion that right now the overall best-featured MIDI FX plugin, for the money, is HY's Sequencer Collection, which is about $60. There's a free version to get a taste for it with, and it's more of a sequencer, obviously, than a straight-up random-melody tool, but it has randomizers all over it, a MIDI recording feature so you can easily drag out and chop apart bits of whatever it's doing, a bunch of built-in MIDI FX to process the sequencing, AND it does great MIDI CC modulation, with or without the sequencers running.

And re: Reason, I don't recall a factory melody randomizer, per se, but the Players taken together, are pretty amazing, full of interesting surprises; and there's a bunch of RE players and other MIDI tools that make Reason a true MIDI Magician:)

I think you have the correct idea, I will do further research.

Im at the point where I can't afford and I can't afford to by anymore plugs I'm not going to take full advantage of, this is the reason for me asking the community.

I will check out Harvest as well, Thanks for your input David! :tu:

Definitely! There's SO many amazing MIDI tools in the User Library for free, including a stripped down but still great version of Rifflab, that I personally put it in the top 4 or 5 all-time greatest MIDI Manglers. Search the UL for Villanova to go right to some of the finest MIDI tools I've ever seen.

And just search MIDI to book up the next few months of your life:)

My Man! I appreciate your suggestions, hopefully I'll be in production mode more than search mode soon :help:

I have considered Reason's Rack at $71 at
https://m.thomannmusic.com/reason_studi ... 1569617988
but he Players are very desirable but expensive.
Secondly the Rack cannot host host third party plugins.
Thirdly the Rack has no mid output.

Post

All true. BUT, don't forget that you can use a free MIDI loopback tool to send all that MIDI magic out to any other DAW to capture and/or run plugins there in realtime.

https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=7504034

And MIDI out for the rack is extremely likely sooner rather than later:

I hope that the Rack never gets a midi out so that I will have a legit excuse not to buy it and spend lots of money Players.
Yes Midi loopback will do the trick but I really prefer a simple way for doing things. So I will wait for the Rack to host third party VST's. But then after all that said I am still interested. :scared:
