2 days ago I downloaded the new Kontakt player from their website and I'm more than disappointed. I know I'll be yet another skip in the broken record, but - this thing only played for 15 minutes! I mean - what's the point? If it's to convince me to buy it - that's the worse way to do it. Not to mention it's expensive and I've came to the conclusion several years ago that the only thing that's worth spending money on is a god hardware (thus migrating completely to linux, except on my PC, where windows is the only option because of by Creative X-Fi platinum sound card). I just wish there was some lazy (and free) sample converting program, which is able to make sfz out of nki/m... Hmm... I might just make a tread about it when I come back from work. Anyways - my alternative (because I'm not much in to tweaking my libraries) is linuxsampler - very flexible in my opinion and with lots of features - and it's Free (no time limit and stuff like that).

The point of it is to have a demo of Kontakt's abilities. You can reload it after 15 mins and continue trying out.

There's quite a lot of things you can do in Kontakt that SFZ doesn't cover.

The Free Kontakt Player isn't timing out, it's the library you're accessing.
I have the full version of Kontakt 5 and I get that 15 min timeout, but that's only for the libraries that I haven't purchased.

What library are you trying to demo?

gabebrunogarza1021, I don't remember... I do remember I got it from a gift cd (something that came with some hardware probably) - it's not mine, it belongs to a friend of mine. It was some organ. I will try with a free one, though - I still keep the dll plugin - and I'll post the result later.

I'm sorry for the double post, but I promised I'd test kontakt again - so here is the result:
I load my kontakt player in Festige with dssi-vst. It prompts me to activate, buy or run demo. I run the demo, than I load a free sample library (Acoustic guitar Free). After 15 minutes it stops. It's the same with every other nki or nkm I have. It's very annoying... I suspect it might be, because I'm not using it in windows, but that's just wild guessing. If there is a solution to this I'd be happy to try again.

phoenixofstorm,
The answer is in the topic title. ;)
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Akai VIP = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

That's how Kontakt Player works with libraries that are not licenced for Kontakt Player. Nothing strange about that. Consider it as a demo mode.

Wow, all the time I thought that you can't restart the Kontakt player and get another 15 min. I did not know that. That gives new possibilites. So I could create a midi track and just bounce the track. And when I want to change something, then I just restart the Kontakt Player and bounce it again. That should work hopefully.

Post

So it's just a little bit annoying, but actually you don't need Kontakt, right? You just have to restart it. I don't think that's such a big deal? Moreover you can freeze tracks. So I might buy a Kontakt library without having Kontakt..

Post

Sure, if you can shell out melodies and stuff in chunks of 15 minutes at a time. It will get tedious very quick... :)

Not to mention that NOT all libraries will load in the player. Many Kontakt libraries require the full version to load so be sure to check the requirements before plunking down those sums.

Happy Musiking!

This is a massive pita for me, as the above JD850 soundset is on sale & all i want is a player. NI are losing out on a new business stream by not making a full version player available.

Looks like native instruments has lessen the price for sample developers to make samples kontatk player compatible, don't?

Just to clear this one up, do the Komplete 10 boxed versions have separate crossgrade, upgrade, update-versions? Some brick-and-mortar stores lists them as individual items.

Post

An Update is from an earlier version of Komplete
An Upgrade is from, for example, Komplete 10 (or earlier) to Komplete 10 Ultimate
A Crossgrade is from some other qualifying product (e.g Sample Logic's Morphestra or Output's Signal) to Kontakt 5.

You can see all the details on the NI site when you select one of the purchase choices.
