More precise: pictures of interference patterns, made with a transducer suspended at the centre of a glass of water, shot from above.

depends on the container ie boundary conditions

this technique - using light bounced off interference patterns in water - is often used in live performance

sorry it is just something I have seen people do live - but if you search on theatre bouncing light off water you should come up with something

ripple tank theatre might get something too
