Marilyn Crispell is a more recent jazz musician I admire (proper jazz not that watered down MOR crap that often gets served up as jazz these days)

She did a tribute album to Annette Peacock too

Post

Nine Horses - Snow Borne Sorrow
Arve Henriksen - Cartography
Flanger - Nuclear jazz
Flanger- Spirituals
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew

well, I think that she's more overlooked (by the wide public she deserves)
than underrated,
in fact, she's usually very highly rated by those who know her music ...
Bowie, Patti Smith, Brian Eno, Robert Wyatt, Chrissie Hynde, Sonic Youth,
Pat Metheny, Prince, Ginger Baker, Grandmaster Flash, Coldcut ...
(among many others) are absolute fans, & many owe her A LOT,
especially Bowie & Patti Smith  ...

it's sad that so few people are aware of her unique talent,
& how influential her discography is,
every album she makes is a masterpiece ...

she's a real genius (self-taught/natural born) composer, a true original,
not unlike Debussy & Monk ...

for anyone interested in discovering (some of) her music,
(& her divine voice  )
"I have no feeling" & her latest album "31:31" are available here :

"Abstract-Contact" is currently out of stock ...
but it's been reported that her monumental & groundbreaking "I'm the one"
will be re-issued (by Annette Peacock on her own label)
for the first time on CD someday, hopefully soon :D :hyper:

Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
Sun Ra - Space Is The Place
John Coltrane - John Coltrane

Finally - I have had it on vinyl since the 70's.

You would probably like "An Acrobat's Heart" though - very beautiful (almost classical)

the excerpts don't do justice to the album's mood
(& the great brass arrangements & beautiful harmonies in it) ...

thanks taotekid! I'd like to have her stuff on emusic, because the 31$ price is not inviting too.

you're welcome mellotronaut :D

would you order it if it was half the price ?
if you would,
then PM me your paypal address if you've got one
& I'll transfer half the price to you :)
(but only if you order it,
it wouldn't be good karma if I paypal you while you don't buy it)

she deserves (& probably needs) her audience's support these days,
I heard that she doesn't live very extravagantly to say the least ...
