I found a Russian warez site hosting my plugin for free download. I sent the IP host a formal DMCA Takedown notice (including all the required legal information). They replied with, "please provide documents establishing your rights".
Um, OK, so now the criminals are demanding things from the victims? What is this? I replied that my company name and copyright notice are displayed on every document in the package including the GUI screenshot they had posted on their website!
I'm pssd. How would you respond to this?

everyone of you should start a cooperative organization where you all chips in for a high priced specialist lawyer. go after them and jail them like the common criminal element they are.

There are many countries in the world where this isn't even illegal, no copywrite law, no IP law...the only way this can be controlled is by prosecuting the people who download illegal software in countries that have enforceable laws.
That said, as the majority of people who use warez are kids and chavs, so fining people who have no money is somewhat pointless!
No wonder all the major software companies in music start to diversify in to hardware!

You just need to part of a multi-billion dollar industry with the lobbying power to get the FBI/American government to put the squeeze on a foreign government to perform a raid on a private citizens house without due process. Simple

i don't know what country you are from, but in America we buy the law. you can do what ever twists your panties with enough dollars. it's not like these shits have gone through any kind of due process. get the right lawyer for the right price, and he will make the law for you.

Whatever it is that you do in America is entirely up to you. Don't expect the world to follow, or to comply. Arrogant pricks.Dasheesh wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 11:40 pm i don't know what country you are from, but in America we buy the law. you can do what ever twists your panties with enough dollars. it's not like these shits have gone through any kind of due process. get the right lawyer for the right price, and he will make the law for you.

We are not all arrogant pricks here. I'm just trying to protect my work. I expected SOME piracy but chasing down all these illegal websites is becoming futile.
It seems I need something pro-active - maybe ilok, etc. I was hoping I didn't need to go that route but it's either that or become freeware. I know there have been numerous discussions on this forum about copy protection. What is the latest consensus/what do you folks recommend?

There is no copy protection I am aware of that has ever worked, the best form of copy protection is an accessible price and very frequent updates so that 'pirates' always feel that they have old versions with features missing whilst they wait for someone else to hack it again....
Remember, most of these guys are not really musicians, just collectors of 'stuff' and they don't learn how to use anything. Without a price there is no value, no investment- they download, play for 20 minutes then download the next thing....when you can just have everything all at once it does nothing but waste your time.

Copy protection is not about stopping piracy (that will never happen). It's about widening the timespan from the release to the first pirated version, in which the product has its biggest impact and the company can generate income. Good copy protection is also about turning pirates into customers.

i've had my say. i think if you guys are serious, you need to pool your revenue together, hire the right guy, and nail these little shits to wall. send a message. a hard message. otherwise deal with it.
