so, no way to work around known bugs or limitations in specified versions of hosts?

You can get that info using OS functions by querying the main CFBundle or GetFileVersionInfo.

i didn't mention i was doing this in linux (didn 't think it mattered, as i was convinced there were still some functionality in the vst sdk for this)..
but thanks for the info, could be handy if (when?) i do a windows/mac port..
