I love the idea, but I must admit, the 6-operator editor looks more scary to me than an actual script :clown:
I'll hold of doing a homage to the FS1R for now then :hihi:

I do agree with you though that working with scripts is a lot easier for me, but as a concept for those that don't and prefer the familiarity of a GUI then this could have legs.

Having said that the UHMate DX is relatively simple, the daunting looking part is the envelopes I think.

Good luck at Superbooth :tu:

Gone soft wrote: Sat May 04, 2019 2:05 am Thanks for the UHMate DX cytospur , doing FM/PM uhms for Hive makes so much more sense to me now now than trying to actually script it. :clap: I've made little of use to others so I won't share the semirandom nonsense I've come up with but I'm enjoying the journey a lot (yup presently I'm pretty much one of those horrible processoriented people yu may have heard about). :D

What I'm not sure about at all is how to change to a different algorithm and how to know how that algorithm is actually structured (except offcourse doing a websearch and figuring algorithm number this and that is structured like this and that). How about a simple way of chosing an algorithm and a way of seing that algorithms structure displayed visually withing the app? Pretty please? It would so helpful to those of us who know a bit about FM/PM (this is Phase Modulation I'm pretty sure though it's traditionally called FM) but who haven't fully memorized all DX7 algortihms as we never had one. :pray:

Also is there any way to have options for different degrees of randomization and randomizing only a selection of parameters? Different degrees as in for instance randomizing something by a given percentage so that we can randomize something by just 1% or 10% and quickly come up with variations on settings we like? Or would that be a bit too much of a challenge to implement?
Thanks for the feedback and it's great that you're getting some use out of it!

I'll see how it goes, but the plan is to have all the algorithms in loadable text format, with the possibility to have these embedded within UHMate DX so that you can switch between algorithms on the fly. It might be a lot of work, it might not. We'll see!

The randomisation idea is a good one. Again, it depends on how easy it is to implement.

personally, using script code to make a WT is very non musical, using a dx gui to do it is even more geeky (just use a dx synth?)

i just load samples i find useful and stitch them together, but i also dont use hive, so :shrug:
I think you know me well enough by now :hihi:

I havent really investigated the new scipt feature in Hive, but would absolutely love to have a vast library of DX style fm tables in Hive.

Would be cool if the tool could read real sysex files and batch out wavetables from them :)

Post

That would be nice, but is totally out of scope, for many reasons, for this particular project. Sorry!

I'll hopefully be able to upload this at some point this evening:

Uhmate ReDX.png

A GUI for generating UHM scripts and based on the Yamaha Reface DX, but with extras, e.g., feedback waveform isn't limited to sawtooth and square, plus a LFO in the feedback path to create interesting phase distortions.

Dummy scripts are preloaded, so now you can select the algorithm that you want and the generated UHM script will take account of that.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I'm afraid so. I'm hoping someone will come a long and take these ideas and do them properly tbh.

I'd add the duality between GUI and code is smart (if possible to edit both ways especially). Such an app might be a great starter to gradually dive into scripting.

The duality isn't there yet, but I'm working on it. It would indeed be a great way to dip one's toes and learn some chops!

Well, just seing it represented as a uhm script makes scripting seem less scary to me. I salute your effort! :tu: :clap:

Also I used to program a TX81z directly from the front panel with no external editor so it's familiar territory, really looking forward to this! :wheee:

Sorry for the wait. I wasn't happy with the way I was dealing with time scaling in the envelope. They are now all scaled based on the global maximum length of all of the envelopes as opposed to individually/locally as I did previously.

The settings on running the program should give you a nice FM trumpet sound!

https://charlesdickens.neocities.org/UHMate%20ReDX.zip

Parameters:
AMP = OP level
FRQ = OP coarse tune
FBC = feedback coarse tune (1=classic sawtooth feedback, 2=Reface DX square feedback,3+=unique to this script :hyper: )
FBF = feedback fine tune (yep, the feedback frequency doesn't have to be a whole number :o )
FBA = feedback amount
LFOF = LFO frequency (creates a phase distortion in the feedback path)
LFOD = LFO depth
L0,L1 etc = envelop levels
T1,T2 etc = envelope rates

Feedback on parameter ranges will be useful, e.g., OP amp level range could be extended, maybe the LFOF range is too much.

Edit: Unfortunately the generated script that is in the GUI is not currently editable. Hopefully it will be one day!
