Looks like my favorite AmpSim developer is doing a hardware floor unit. It's going to be interesting to see how they will fare compared to Line6 Helix. It's more expensive and is missing an expression pedal, but has more DSP and a nice UI with touch screen and rotary knobs.

I hope this means that they will release a native VST later on as well. The Line6 Helix native to hardware compatibility is something I really like.

Sorry to dig up an oldie like that.

I do not think they will. My reasoning is as follows:
They have released a couple of VST amps. They are now releasing a hardware unit.
The hardware unit does not contain any amps from the plugins collection (except from Darkglass pedals). No amps from the hardware unit are available as plugins (no Fortins inside :( ). As far as I understand, you will be able to use your Neural DSP VST plugin amps inside Quad Cortex.
I believe, that they want to keep the amps exclusive to the platforms, so that you have an incentive to buy multiple products from them. Ergo, I would not assume, that they will make the Quad Cortex available as a VST plugin.
If they will, however, I will be the first one to sell my kidney and get it, because it won't be cheap, just like Helix Native.

You might be right, but amp sims is a fiercely competitive market and I wonder how many will buy multiple products from them instead of just a big bundle package from competitors like Helix Native or Amplitube instead.

Me too!

Looks like the first stores have the Quad Cortex listed, e.g. Andertons:
https://www.andertons.co.uk/neural-dsp- ... p-modeller

And here's the manual:

The virtual device list starts on page 92 by the way.

The first reviews and demos are pouring in. Seems like a great time to be a guitar player (with deep pockets). ;)

$1600 isn't that much for what it does is it?

The helix is $1700, as is the kempler.

I preorder from Sweetwater in October.
Oh man I can't wait for this thing!!!

I have done some effects coding for Quad Cortex, and while I haven't really been involved in the amp side (or exactly because of that), I can honestly say that Neural Capture is a seriously amazing feature that has to be tried to be believed. It just recently dawned on me that it's not limited to capturing physical amps and cabinets (despite what the manual says), you can use it to capture a plugin or basically anything that mimics a guitar amp / cab / pedal... it doesn't really know or care where the guitar sound is coming from. There was one preset in a well-known guitar plugin that we have used quite a lot, so we thought what the heck, let's try it. And behold, the result was essentially the exact same sound, only now it's in Quad Cortex. I think I know something about technology and sound, but this pretty much equals witchcraft to me.

Damn if I had the money would get one for sure! Their plugins sound great, and pushable encoders is great feature if they have right kind of feel on them. I had a Kemper for a few years and really liked it, and maybe this could be the next thing...

Maybe you can answer a question. Is there any models that are duplicated in the plugins? I ask because I have a Kemper which I’m very happy with, but I like the idea of dual (or even quad!) stereo amps and the Kemper is strictly one profile at a time. I just want to see if I can get results as good as my Kemper (or better) before I make the trade.

If you didn't already, you can check out the Quad Cortex user manual, which also contains a list of all the factory amps and other virtual devices. The manual will probably answer your question better than I could  https://downloads.neuraldsp.com/file/qu ... 01_0_0.pdf

Thanks for that. I had seen that list but I was wondering if those corresponded to any of the plugins on this page.

https://neuraldsp.com/plugins

If not, are they of a higher quality in the device, or just different? Thanks.

So, I tested four of the Neural DSP plugins up against my Kemper... nope. Maybe the capture is better, but I couldn’t get the models to sound nearly as good as profiles. I’ll stick with what I have.

I dont have a kempler but i know taste is personal. I think you like the Helix 6 or is that my imagination? Whereas i wouldnt even play the helix if it was given to me free.
I assume one of the four u tried was the new one Gojira? That one sounds better to me than the at least the other Archetypes and is using a newer technology which they will migrate to their older plugins.
