Did you see the second Automatone model is a Chase Bliss/Meris colab? Interesting...

Meh, that's nothing compared to the new Nektar pads someone showed me today...

Thanks!

This pedal GAS is worse than plugin GAS!
I don't really know what these two are, but there are just -so- many different pedals! And so many of them are really good.
But you can't "demo" them.

I'm looking at a EHX Soul Food next and then looking at the MXR Timmy when they arrive here in the UK ;-)

Soul Food is only good if you want a thinner sounding version of a Klon. Of the 15+ Klon clones I’ve used, the Soul Food and the $30 Chinese clones were the least successful.

I really like the Soul Food before heavier distortion (Carl Martin Crush Zone/Rocktron Zombie/T-Rex ToneBug Totenschlager). Nice price too (at least when I bought it).
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

I hope MXR are giving PaulC a good chunk of the price - he's one of the good guys.

If you didn't want to wait, at that price you can probably get an original on the forums or one of the excellent clones floating about.

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with looking at it as its own thing. It’s unsuccessful as a clone but that doesn’t make it a bad pedal. One could even argue that the first trebley boost, the Dallas Rangemaster, is the sound of early rock n roll.

Uncle E - khanyz - see what I mean?
Completely different opinions because pedals sound different depending on guitar/amp/how you play etc etc

I guess you just have to buy stuff and sell it (if it was used) or return it (if it was new) if you don't like it.
It's a minefield!

vurt - well, I have a guitarguitar nearby (Edinburgh) so I guess I can try some things there...

Yay, a classic at lower price, from a trusted brand, with distributors in Europe
Although I should refrain, I'm ODing on ODs as it is. Oh dear!

The Timmy is really great! I emailed Paul several times over the years trying to buy one and he never got back to me, and the closest I ever got to owning one was the Danelectro clone. Suddenly, a box of pedals showed up at a local auction, I bought the lot and it ended up having both a Tim and a Timmy inside. The Danelectro isn't even close!

Anyway, it's really great to finally have access to that sound easily and at a low cost. MXR did a great job with the Shinjuku Drive, which I would definitely put in the Top 10 of drive pedals, and hopefully they'll do as well with the Timmy.

Same here. I like the way the Soul Food drives something that adds distortion further in the chain. I know it’s not a Klon, but it’s the next best thing without spending that much money.

I think there was quite a bit of variation in the Danelectros. I compared a couple to a real Timmy and an accurate clone. One of the Danelectros was very close for most settings while the other was well off. It was the same story with the other Cool Cat (often said to be an OCD clone but more like the Voodoo Labs which the OCD is based on). I tried two and it was like using completely different designs.

Well, I have to be careful because I made a Klon-type pedal. The Soul Food is really the only one I'll comment on because it's so far from the original. The other Klon-type pedals on the market are very good.

FWIW, we sell my pedal, the Tone Bakery Creme Brulee, for $99:
