Hink, how can you disagree with my experience? Your experience is different, but it doesn't negate mine.
I've had fewer problems with Epis, ironically. My 'Inspired By Lennon' Casino plays like a dream, and can do tones from jazz to Revolution.

Nice analogy. Both available with g strings.

I suppose it could be pot luck ordering guitars via mail order, compared to actually playing one in-store.
Technology has evolved rapidly over the last 40 years, especially the last 15 years, look at mobile phones, etc.
I believe quality and consistency has improved with the help of computers in manufacturing.
Most guitars consist of wood, metal and plastic, a poorly made guitar can be difficult, a suitably made guitar can be easier to setup and play.
On top of that, there's wood stability and components, such as tuners, nuts, bridges and pickups.

LOL!
C´mon guys!
Each one of us is different and has different tastes!
Gibson did some disaster guitars lately!
Honestly, if it didn´t play well I would just return it. It´s great to have a Gibson but only if it plays good. Brands are not that important these days... You can find Epiphones that play wonderful and for just a fraction of the cost! And some small manufacturers have the best guitars.
Cheers!

True, Tokai Love Rock, the only single cut I need. I'm pretty frugal.
A guy auditioned for the last band I was in, he played a Gibson LP Studio with P90's, it sounded awesome.

I wasn't disagreeing with your experience, but as someone who is very outspoken about Gibson and someone else who doesn't care for them I was disagreeing that they aren't worth a damn imo. At this point though because of other business decisions made by Gibson the truth is I wont support them so even if they sold of Les Paul's cheap I would not buy one new

Epiphones can be surprisingly good. I have a DR-100, which is really good quality for a $150 guitar.
I do agree with Hink that Gibson hikes their prices way higher than they should be, but when you play a really good Gibson you know it. I used to own a ‘74 Les Paul Custom that is the best guitar I have ever owned, but I have also played Gibsons that are just so-so.

They're worth a damn if they don't have any issues, but still not worth the sticker price, imo. We agree on that fo' sho'.

I remind that I got mine new with hard case for about 710€ (retailed originally as 1600€) so it was a no brainer...
You could pay ± that for a top Epiphone easily.

That’s an understatement - I recall one time after a comment about playing guitars around a camp fire you suggested that Les Pauls could be used to keep the fire burning...Hink wrote:as someone who is very outspoken about Gibson...

I actually prefer buying online because in the EU, you have the right of withdrawal for 14 days (many bump that up to 30), whereas buying in a shop the policy usually is no refund. I can't get a good handle on the merits of a guitar in a noisy shop trying the guitar out for 15 minutes or so. I stopped buying at a local shop partly because of that. I ended up having to do exchanges I didn't want to do because of the no-refund policy. The Noodlist wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 2:48 pm I suppose it could be pot luck ordering guitars via mail order, compared to actually playing one in-store.

You got a steal. But a guitar that won't stay in tune or have suitable action is not worth one Pfennig to me.ourafilmes wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 3:04 pm I remind that I got mine new with hard case for about 710€ (retailed originally as 1600€) so it was a no brainer...

tbf, not much wood in all the hippy guitars, so they're not going to last long...
