To me, it sounds better than the under saddle strips.
I wonder if brass bridge pins would help transmission?

I think the clue is to get more from wood - not brittle strings. The piezo right under saddle on top is horrible in any style I heard. Glued inside guitar right under bridge very different story.

But what I found is that experimenting with guitar you have and downtuning just a half step to D# get rid of a lot of brittle in sound - matters a lot. And since string tensions goes down guitar becomes even more playable.

I was too set on normal tuning to E for too many years until I found how Leo Kottke got such a soft and nice, yet full sound out of Taylor guitars - he downtune a lot, even C# on some guitars. The 12-string two half steps to D.

So many things influence sound of a acoustic.

I have an acoustic with a Duncan soundhole pickup. I remember that it used to record ok through my old Tascam 4-Track, but sounds anemic to my DAW through instrument input on my Komplete Audio 6. Any suggestions?
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Consider it a passive pickup - and high impedance instrument inputs or a DI-box.
Normal line input are too low impedance.
Unless it has a battery and then that is not the problem.

I used a Duncan Woody - but you always get a little bit of electric guitar feel to the sound. It does not pick up wood in guitar.

Complement with external mike of some sort, I think, and mix result.

Just about to fit 3 27mm piezo discs inside a acoustic guitar. They are quite loud when connected. They sound more natural than the under saddle strip.

http://jjb-electronics.com/prestige-330.html these are pretty inexpensive . 15mm piezo but you can get 20mm ones too ...

You be the judge.

OEM mic/piezo preamp (allegedly) with the under saddle piezo replaced with 3 27mm piezo discs instead.
Just used piezo.
Everything ran through a Harley Benton American sound with drive @10 o'clock, into a Fredenstein VAS pre DI with a TC Electronic C300 inserted taking off a few dB on the way in.
For a single acoustic guitar, I would use a external mic.

A few years ago now I picked up a Vintage Gordon Giltrap Signature model:

This comes with a Fishman Rare Earth Blend system:
https://www.fishman.com/products/series ... le-pickup/

Magnetic soundhole pick-up with added internal mic. A rotary control adjusts the balance between the mag and mic and it has solved all my recording problems.
Mess about a bit at first to get the mic in the best position and to get the best blend setting then look forward to recording an almost perfect acoustic sound with minimal outside interference.
Expensive but easily added to almost any acoustic guitar.

I just dug out a quick test demo when I first got this (2015) so you can judge for yourselves.
Two tracks with no processing.

It sounds better than a DI piezo sound on its own, but I still think you could achieve much better results with a decent mic and pre positioned a couple of feet away.

Post

Maybe, but the point is that with a mic positioned a few feet away you open up the external noise level, which is what the OP was trying to get rid of.
