This things pretty cool for the money
https://www.keithmcmillen.com/products/boppad/
Any users? Its great as a drum pad (or 4 drum pads) but I am going to try and make it work as an 8 midi note hang drum player....I have seem McMilan did it with a MAX script (using the radius output which is 0-127 to trigger notes - so I was thinking using the 4 quadrants (you get 4 notes out as is) but using the radius cc to trigger notes -Q1 0-64 = C 65-127 = D etc Q2 0-64 = E 65-127 = F etc....
Anyone done anything like this before?

It's definitely possible to extract more notes using radial expression and even still have expression going, just divided in resolution. In Bitwig I think it can be done using Pitch Shift device and modulator with CC value, also might need Polynom for range adjustment or just a macro.
The way I see it though, 200$ is a bit too expensive for just a drum pad. Yeah, it's rugged, but you can get more complex midi controller with drum pads for the money.

I am still experimenting- I want the scale selection as well (preprogramed with those cool hang drum type scales like Low E pigmy) haven't cracked it yet, was hoping someone else had May need to wait for V3 ;-0)
I paid 160UK GBP and there are not many drum controllers you can hit hard with drum sticks or play very lightly with your hands...closes thing I can think of is the Roland HandSonic and that is way more expensive! It isn't designed to replace MPC style pads, its more of a virtual instrument - bodhran, toms, snare, and responds well to those playing style if you have a good sound source, map it well and if you hit it wit the right implement! FYI I have mine either mounted to my TDK Drum Kit for triggering with stix, or I have it in my lap and play it like a tom or hang drum.

You could also set it up kinda like this: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv1jl0XoaYk/
there are ways to do it in Bitwig. Also possible to just use virtual pads for that kind of manual-triggered sequence progressions.

I actually did that first as it was sort of easier....4 zones with pressure and radius to cc- use radius cc to drive CV instrument pitch and put that in to my eurorack quantisder (all via ADAT/ES-3s) - lots of fun playing your modular with drum mallets

in his case drum sounds actually come from that drum-pad sampler and the samples act as triggers to progress note sequence in the modular it seems.

I do have a BopPad and think that is a good idea...
Sometimes I think I should run Max anyway together with Bitwig... I made this patch to turn my seaboard block into a 27 fader box, and to do what you want in Max would be a snap...
I‘ll see if its possible within Bitwig, and if not I can pass on a Max patch which does it. No Max license required, you just can‘t save changes if Max isn‘t authorized...

Cheers - I do have MAX so either way is great. The problem with MAX on the PC (with the MAX prog that KM supply for radius to notes) is that you then have to use another midi utility to pipe it in to the DAW etc and it all gets a bit messy. Idealy a Bitwig script seems the solution, or maybe this stuff will be accesible in V3? Either way, it makes a great hang drum/tuned percussion controller wityh just 4 notes as is, I even bought Pianoteq steel drums add on I have my eye on http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products ... pan-drums/ when the next sale is on

The price tag for such a sample based instrument is high and cannot really grab all the details (if you ever touched the real thing you know what I mean...)
I‘d prefer a physical model based on this work:
http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/12260/1/EyalMSc.pdf
Maybe Pianoteq will do it one day...

NI had one a while back...ity will happen again!Tj Shredder wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 3:04 pm The price tag for such a sample based instrument is high and cannot really grab all the details (if you ever touched the real thing you know what I mean...)

I paid about 30E for the Pianoteq models (from Audiodelux) and they are not bad at all, https://www.pianoteq.com/steelpans you can of course demo, but they are fine for me for now.
The BopPad is OK for what I paid for it, but I suspect it will end up as a permanent fixture on my drum kit as a trigger...I now have my eye on the sensel morph (https://sensel.com/pages/the-sensel-mor ... gLvGvD_BwE)
Full support for Bitwig, has a great editor (I downloaded it, you can literally just draw 8 circles and assign midi notes with MPE- it will even save as files for 3d printing!) and that new Buchla Thunder Overlay wants to play with my modular May start another thread to see if anyone has any experience, but it looks like it would make a great MPE controller for Bitwig, and I love that it has full Bitwig support and mapping for each overlay.

I also think that the sensel morph looks very interesting. Does anybody know if it is available in the EU? Or only through import from the US? Does the editor work in Linux? Any experiences?

Its available in the EU. Ive forgotten where it shipped from, and the tracking info is gone now, but it came from somewhere in the EU as well, presumably their fulfilment warehouse.rumpelkind wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:05 am I also think that the sensel morph looks very interesting. Helpful customer services too.
Unfortunately it doesnt look as though the editor supports Linux; there's a table on their webpage which breaks down the OS support...
