I was actually thinking to get Logic and use it along side BW just for mixing. The gain staging and things seem so much better. But I never used it, only seen videos.
I'd like to know what you mean re the gain staging benefits in logic? I used logic from version 6 to version X, but maybe I missed something.

I like that bitwig tracks all start at - 10db and that you can see a meter between each plugin. Not sure what could make gain staging any easier tbh.

It's also very easy in BW to add a tool device before & after a plugin, linking them together so that as you pull the input down on one, the output increases on the other. With the plugin sandwiched inbetween this allows you to precisely adjust what's fed into the plugin whilst retaining the correct output volume. Very nice.

Cheers for listening to the track BTW, it's all ITB other than the mic & pres capturing the vocals etc.

It's more that the metering looks better on Logic. Example there is a pre fader monitoring option on the logic mixer. And it shows better information like the little EQ display and gain reduction on the mixer screen.
On Bitwig I need to load devices everywhere to do this. Lots more clicking around. It seems like logic has all the important stuff right there on display compared to Bitwig. Anything that means less clicking is good to me.

But remember I never actually used Logic. I followed a mixing course and they were using Logic and that's where I spotted some nice features that made me notice how Logic focuses you more on mixing. Then for me to do the same in Bitwig meant loading more devices, the device chains get longer and Im changing screens a lot.

I find the little meters between devices on BW are useless, they are tiny and have no info. If they were expanded it would be really useful. Instead of me loading devices either side all the time.

But hey if you moved from Logic to BW and prefer the mixing here then great! Its good to hear all the opinions. Also your mix is nice sounding and open :tu:

Hey Craigtrumps

Yes I can see how logic may be nicer if coming from the traditional mixing perspective like a mixing desk type feel. Especially if using logics own eq and compression which is displayed on the mixer.

I guess I'm speaking more about the technical side of mixing, the creative possibilities of mixing & achieving sounds & solving issues etc. For example, I can combine 10 reverbs into a "super reverb" simply by pressing cmd&G and stacking them in parallel, all within a container on the track itself! (like an insert)
Really powerful creative mixing possibilities in BW and so fast to do.

But yes I totally hear you, logic may feel nicer from a more traditional "mixing desk" perspective. 👍🏻:-)

Whatever works, works!

All the best

TBH i could probably write another million words on how much i love Bitwig for mixing and mastering so i'd better stop here. Maybe will do a 'mixing in bitwig' book one day LOL
I actually had no idea bitwig was so good for mixing and mastering. That hasnt seemed to be one of the main points people bring up when raving about BW, and one of the reasons I've been ok staying stuck in the video tutorial and research phase. Long time ableton user. Your post finally got me to download the demo version. So far I'm quite impressed with it hands on. Thanks man! Streamed :tu:

I’m really newbie . Do I need to have standard version first ? Or Should I wait for new version .

no idea whether that's even possible to do in Logic.

now just add some imagination and you have a mixing engineers wet dream :-)

I've stopped playing with Logic here: "In the piano roll see mulitple tracks, edit one" crazy

"You can resize, move, delete notes in context of other regions, you just can't create new notes."

multitrack MIDI note editing (adding new notes) simply isn't working in it ... ( just mention it because it can be useful to somebody ... if I had only known this I wouldn't even try to check it)

I'm not sure what you mean by "standard" vs. "new", but buying Bitwig license today - with 2.4.3 as current version - gives you free upgrades over the next 12 months, which should get you to 3.2 or maybe 3.3 (there are 3-4 updates a year). After that time passes, you can get another 12 months of upgrades or use the version you're at by that time indefinitely and only get another 12 months when you want to upgrade again.

I'd advice getting the the $5 issue of January's Computer Music that includes Bitwig 8-Track license (and access to 80+ free plugins!), try it out and then you can upgrade to full Bitwig for EUR/$40 less if you like it :)

Is this a question? If you look here:

https://www.bitwig.com/en/shop/webshop.html

the difference between 8-Track upgrade (359$ / 339EUR) and full Bitwig license (399$ / 379EUR) is 40 $/EUR. So to be more precise it's 35$/EUR less, because you need to buy CM for $5 :)

Beware - I just purchased this and inside it says you can only claim the Bitwig 8-track serial until Feb 20th. I am contacting Computer Music support and trying to get a serial or a refund. But as of this moment I just wasted $5.

Post

Oh noes, someone wasted money trying to get cheaper deal.

Seriously.. just contact Bitwig support and they will most likely help you with that issue. They are more than generous guys.

Waste is waste. And there's no cheaper deal involved. This is how you get Bitwig 8-track. The only way.

Thankfully the second sentence of your post is less condescending and actually helpful. I'd already thought of it and emailed them but good advice nonetheless. And yes, they were very helpful. Great customer support. 100 points to Bitwig! (but none to you since your first sentence cancels out your second.)

Also, thanks to antic604 for the link. Now I have a chance to properly evaluate Bitwig. It's not the kind of software where a save/export-disabled demo really gives you the time to dig into it. I don't know how much of The Grid will make it into 8-track but hopefully a cut down version so that it's possible to get a handle on how good it is (and it looks really good.)

Sorry, I wasn't aware of this limitation.
