Now? Use step sequencer plugins. Also plenty of synths have their own. Eventually, Bitwig will have some built-in options
Back when I used Live, I had more than a dozen such step sequencers and ended up never using them. For one thing, I discovered over time I don't much like the probability stuff. I find it too random and not dependably musical enough. Also, I just like playing music more than programming it. The clip launcher is like a big step sequencer with realtime playing input! I do like to use arpeggiators sometimes cause they can also be played.
