Here I'd like to try Waveform's ability to add VST synths to a track but this is not possible in the demo.

Searching here reveals to me that users are having much problems regarding VST plugins working in Waveform.

What operating system are users having these issues with?

Here I use Linux and would be interested to know how well VST synths work with Waveform on it -- but I want to be able to first test VST synths in the demo mode before making a final decision.

Why you think so? It's possible, demo is full-feature for 30 days.

What synth you gonna test?

I use Windows 10 and have had zero problems with vst integration. I'm using a combination of common, commercial ones and some occasional odd ones. A pretty solid test, I think. Nearly all my Waveform problems have been self-inflicted or were on earlier versions.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

If you have bought Windows version of Waveform you can run it on Linux as well.

I've tested a lot of vst plugins in Waveform under Linux.
Here three that hangs Waveform's gui (but doesn't crash):

Drumgizmo 100% case https://www.drumgizmo.org/
Hypercyclic 50/50 but usable http://www.mucoder.net/en/hypercyclic/
Drumsynth 99.(9)% case https://github.com/DISTRHO/DISTRHO-Ports

All other that I tested works fine, include Surge, U-he, Xhip etc and all Tracktion's plugins (Biotek, Waverazor)
Windows plugins that works via LinVst https://github.com/osxmidi/LinVst bridge works in WF perfectly too.

I think we are having a basic issue of using a DAW. Learning to use DAW and Video Editors are steep learning curves.

Are you sure you are set up to use MIDI like this video?

PS I use Linux and Windows 10. Waveform works fine. I like U-He Synths but that is $$$. Here is a Linux of some Linux Friendly Synths http://www.linuxsynths.com/

Bitwig is my DAWs and UHe and Tracktion Synths are my Bae. I maybe buy one synth a year. REMEMBER SELF just one synth a year!

Ok. I managed to disable the help popups I think may have been causing me not to drag the + icon properly. I use Linux Vsts here no wine vsts... the Vsts work fine thanks.

Please keep in mind that in forums like this, you’ll hear from every one of us that has issues with a plugin, but usually not from those happily making music. I have about 750 plugins on my MacOs machine, and over a boring weekend I tested every one in Waveform. In total, 4 crashed the app, and another 20 or so had some quirks. (But most of those had another format that worked fine... i.e. the AU acted strange, but the VST3 was fine). The vast majority of my plugins work without issue! I know it always seems to that it will be the ONE plugin we can’t live without that has a problem, but in general, Waveform 10, at least for me, is as stable (or more so) than any other DAW on my system. (Studio One Pro 4.5, Mixbus 32c, Reaper).

I have no issues with plugins on my Mac(so far). What does crash Waveform in my situation is drag and dropping my audio loops from the browser onto empty track's. Sadly It happens way too often. I'm on High Sierra btw.
