Thanks gigazaga... I picked 3 vids from Groove3 invaluable info. And for all your hard work. . Was wondering how your set up for Kontakt is? I found myself battling it a little bit. I saw you had multi output but i was stuck on multi instrument. It just seemed like getting them to work was alot of back and forth. And then it wasnt running efficient - is instance vs multi instrument better ? Any info thanks. G

Thank for the feedback. I don’t use Kontakt at this point. My Komplete license is way out of date and I haven’t installed yet on my new computer.geqfreq wrote:Thanks gigazaga... So... I have T5 & T6 unlocked on my PC. I want to learn this from the ground up, preferably with 6 because it's the newest Where do I start? What tutorials should I begin with? Thanks.

I started with T6 and like it. I started with these videos. They helped a lot.

What kind of music will you be making?
If using samples, I would suggest starting with Plogue free SFZ and download some nice free samples.
Piano: Salamander Piano
Orchestra: Virtual Playing Orchestra, Versillian Studios Chamber Orchestra 2 CE (has a nice piano!) and Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra are all free
If you search for Aria free sounds there are some nice sounds there as well.
Synths: I’m not so sure about but there are some nice free ones such as OBXD or Synth1.
Effects: Tokyo Dawn Records has some nice freebies...and EQ and a compressor. Oril River, Leslie Sanford and Freeverb3 have some nice reverbs.
That should get you started for free. I’m still in the free/learning zone but will start buying some better samples/software.
Good luck! I started about a year ago learning in my spare time. It can be frustrating at times but worth it!

I would start by watching all of the videos on T5 & T6 on this site, for free.kevinwayne wrote:So... I have T5 & T6 unlocked on my PC. I want to learn this from the ground up, preferably with 6 because it's the newest Where do I start? What tutorials should I begin with? Thanks.

Some are professional videos from Groove3, some are from Tracktion, and some are produced by Tracktion guru, Bill Edstrom, who wrote the manuals.

Alright thanks for the info, guys Am I correct in assuming that 5 & 6 are close enough that a demo video for one would pretty much apply to the other?

Start with the T5 videos, that begins with the basics of Tracktion, then build up from there. Learn everything from installation to recording, adding effects, mixing down and more. The T6 training mostly covers the new features in that version.
T6 is basically the same as T5 with some new features added. I have T5, T6, and Waveform 8, and you can see the progression as they keep building Tracktion up by adding new features. But the concepts are the same, you can still use the tools and techniques learned in the older versions.

Think Waveform might be offered free too, someday? Thanks, that shows my assumption was right.

Maybe someday! With Waveform 9 right around the corner, maybe sooner?kevinwayne wrote:Think Waveform might be offered free too, someday? Thanks, that shows my assumption was right.
Have you checked out Tracktion T7 yet? If you work much with audio clips or loops, Tracktion added some powerful features to this version, as well as some cool UI enhancements. It appears to be free now with a redemption code bundled with certain Behringer and Mackie devices.

Behringer and Mackie are including FREE licenses for T7 with many of their digital products. Redeem your copy and try T7 today!

Interesting... I guess I just go to Behringer & Mackie's websites and figure out what I'm supposed to get?

If you are just starting out, the best investment would be a good, budget USB audio interface!kevinwayne wrote:Interesting... I guess I just go to Behringer & Mackie's websites and figure out what I'm supposed to get?
Some examples of decent budget interfaces come from Behringer. http://www.music-group.com/Categories/B ... Interfaces
The Behringer site has links to leading online retailers, where you can select something that meets your needs.
The better ones have one or more pre-amps, which allows you to record from a microphone or guitar, and quality analog to digital signal converters. This is important as your DAW is only as good as the internal wav files that it has to work with.
The audio device built-in to your PC or laptop isn't capable of handling mic or line inputs correctly, so if you are going to be serious about music, this is the first thing you should buy. The bundle deal with Tracktion is a major plus!
