Same here, I think a LOT of negative space exists in this UI, All of the space between most elements should be at least halved, and color should be used for clarity instead of space.

The pro tools issue is because of the weird way PT handles windows. It basically ignores plugin size over a certain number depending on screen size, and adds neither resizing or scrolling. Unfortunately, because of how the AAX interfaces look, it is not very easy to detect this in any reasonable way. Not sure how to approach it. Again, the host container interfaces don't really give any access to enclosing window size and type, and going through the native windows/view hierarchy might work, but it translates poorly to a plugin-type agnostic approach...
As for "negative space", what on earth are you talking about? Scrollable area necessary for slots + editors? I don't really see that being replaced with "color" anytime soon.

Update on this: The good news is that there is actually a notification in PT that is supposed to state the maximum plugin UI size. The bad news is that the value provided is wrong (at least in some versions).
I've tentatively added some code to check this, and on OSX, try to derive an _actual_ plugin max size. Works for me, but YMMW.
Will be in next release.
