As you may know, Extreme Sample Converter can load VSTis, and automatically sample each note you specify at multiple velocities, and make sense of it by exporting SFZ by default but you can change that to anything.

As for TX16Wx, one notable feature is that you can live record each note straight in. And, seeing as how we're encouraged to make custom mappings... here's the big Aha! I had a minute ago:

(for example) Reaper opens with two tracks: Kontakt 5 (with my home made Instrument) on track 1 and TX16Wx on track 2. Track 1 could have a pre-crafted MIDI that pings all the notes you'd want, say a drum template and all the lower octaves are pinged, while TX-sampler records the outputs of each one, and inserts into its samplebank auto-magically.

So then you're thinking, you want multiple velocities, program that to insert into pre-allocated mapping places, and another sweep for aftertouch as well. I don't have the smarts to make this, but conceptualizing it is easy [Big Grin]

The only reason Extreme Sample Converter is long in the tooth is that it only loads 32-bit VSTis, and inherent issues there. Truth be told, I have many sounds in volatile formats and want a backup plan for - let alone to take them to the next level with TX16Wx's abilities.

Thank you and I'd love to hear from someone smarter than I, how to make it happen. :tu:

I did this with OBXD for a multi velocity drum kit. It is really quite intuitive. It may be easier though to record your vsti track output into reaper and use some actions to automate your splits and then import to tx16wx. If you name your files right and use tokens it should be a snap.

TX16Wx v3 has automatic sample recording of note sequences from external instruments (external MIDI or host plugins).
Just as a teaser.

I'd love to see videos on how to do things like that - currently I'm scouring YouTube to get rolling quicker. In my case I have many different sources, and previously I've done many 5-layer drumkits (using ESC), so when I'm auditioning drumkits I can scroll through 30 of them and get a quick fix on what will sound right. Then bring up a larger kit on some app I paid for. But in the event one of the large apps fails (or sadly, company goes out of business leaving my purchase on shaky ground - and that's happened - it's a nice backup plan. Totally win-win. And a game-changer bigtime if we can do this with 64-bit apps.

I think the time has come for your product to explode in popularity, because everything is done so right - even that 30-day thing to keep pro features before buying - that's my kind of developer.
Add to that the demo libraries (like the Reaper drum kit I just snagged) sound super usable and whatnot.

I've got a birthday tomorrow and hope to buy it as soon as I open my cards

But if developer or user rigs a method to sample VSTis in 64-bit, I think this is the beginning of a new era in music - stability for musicians and sample libraries uniform. :tu:

I will revisit this and see if I cant put something together for ya. I agree that sampling Vsti can be helpful. I have done several things with Diva, Codex and Element 2 . Mainly for cpu and convenience. Tx16 wx is perfect for this. I am a big fan as well. My only request would be bigger fonts. My eyes are failing me as the years pass.

Yeah, I need a few more levels. I pretty much have everything memorized though.

My eyes squint a bit too. Right now I'm on a smaller computer with smaller monitor, but not long ago I made sure all the monitors use strictly digital signal. Someone with a VGA monitor might get fatigued quick. Something I'd suggest for version 3. That's my only (hopefully constructive) criticism. Windows Magnifier can help, and my other monitors are more comfortable on the eyes.

Yup, this sampler and a processor is what I really would like for my birthday tomorrow  .
-update- no, maybe I shouldn't have counted my chickens before they hatched. But I'll try to buy soon.

I was reading another Tale of Woe at GS about a person who bought a Kontakt Library and had to upgrade the infrastructure. Now that you could start sampling it without an upgrade, but I believe Kontakt has a monopolistic format - too proprietary. If I want to make a backup so I can use a library and don't want to pay $$$ to upgrade Kontakt later on, then my backup is my backup. Link of interest:

But I hope the powers that code could make something usable and compete with Extreme Sample Converter. I mean you can always do it by hand.,. but some days that isn't fun...

Is that still true?
Being any closer to the goal would mean a great deal to me.

Yes. The MIDI generator iterates through notes + velocity + optional CC and sample each generated note as a separate file (with optional processing etc) to quickly build instruments from either external synths or resampling the internal state.

Requires the host to cooperate of course, as usual REAPER will probably get you there more easily.

What hosts is this feature exclusive to or tested in? Would it be possible to show a few examples/videos of how to route the audio back into the VSTi?

This would be an incredible feature because all other automated vsti samplers i've seen attempt to host the plugin themselves to take care of the signal routing, which usually comes with a large number of restrictions or incompatibilities.

Post

Mainly tested in REAPER, because there signal routing is fairly expressive. Other hosts will need to both implement signal input to instruments + MIDI out from instruments, as well as routing etc, which might not be super easy.

In REAPER it is fairly easy to set up a send/receive for MIDI->other plug, other plug out->Track input -> TX16Wx. Just remember track order and "allow routing feedback". I will eventually make an instruction manual or video on how to do it quickly.

Plug-in hosting is more or less a nightmare, both because of all the quirks and all the formats available. Might come in a feature release though, but no promises.

Using special "insert" plugins for out-of-line routing is also possible, but risky and violates the host/plug contract. And with multi threading, there are a number of timing issues.

In which DAWs does this actually work besides Reaper? FL doesn't recognize any of the vst2/3 plugins as effects with audio-ins, Bitwig detects a vst2 "audio fx" but can't do the required feedback routing unless i missed something. So the requirements seem fairly restrictive, to put it mildly.

Post

Of course the requirements are restrictive, but how would you suggest solving it without host support? A plug-in has a very limited scope of abilities and even less influence on its environment. If the host supports the feature, it works. If not, it does not.
