I just released my first soundset for Phonem:

Phonemklatura Phonemklatura contains 108 patches (including some variations) for the unique vocal synthesizer Phonem (PPG/Wolfgang Palm). These sounds are not aiming at any kind of vocal pseudo-realism, on the contrary, I am using the versatile and expressive vocal character of this synthesizer to create beautiful and delicate pads, ethereal overtone textures, fragile and edgy leads, haunting and alien voices, phonetic experiments, tempo-synced vocaloid mayhem, percussive mallet-like timbres, robotic voices, fantasy beings and other synthetic sounds only faintly reminding of their vocal origin.

Often Phonem's wavetable synthesizer is used to excite the vocal resonators using wavetables extracted from acoustic instruments like brass, woodwinds, string instruments, mallets and electronic textures with PPGs Wavemapper, expanding the possible palette of sounds even more. All sounds make extensive use of Phonem's x/y-pads which can be automated in any DAW and the modulation wheel, quite a few patches also use aftertouch.

As Phonem's onboard effects are very basic and are rarely used in any of these patches, I included some of the original LogicX demo projects containing Midi data and 3rd party effect plugins, and a Cubase 8-project with some effect chains using the native Cubase plugins, so you could use these settings as a starting point.

You can view/download the PDF for this soundset with more details, the licence agreement, and a patchlist including descriptions and playing tips here.

Specs:
  • *108 patches including some variations.
*159 resource files - utterances and wavetables in the native utd/wtz-format.
    *15.9 MB installed
    *Delivery: download
    *Price: € 28 EUR
Product page.

Demos:
All demos were produced entirely with Phonem using only patches from Phonemklatura, some post-processing was applied (delay/reverb/chorus), if several instances of Phonem were used in a track, some volume automation was used.

This patch Vibra Vox uses a wavetabled vibraphone sound for the excitation, quite mellow and smooth:

Here is a little impro with a patch that uses the track modulator to determine the pitches of the trills/tremolos, where you set a dedicated pitch for each utterance/syllable:

Something more delicate, this patch also uses the Track-modulator to determine the pitches of each utterance/syllable and the slurs between them.

Here is a silly jam, using 3 slightly modified copies of the same preset, making use of the Modwheel to control phonem position and velocity to modulate other things which makes for a real expressive jam instrument:

Here ia video for the patch Agogo Vox which uses a wave-tabled agogo loop to excite the resonators, quite delicate...the wheel adds vibrato, aftertouch decreases vibrato speed, x-y pad 1 controls formant shifting, LFOs 1-3 control various things.

My first fresh Phonem sound in 2016, a thing named Transitions:

Guttural Meditation Duet, tweaking x/y-pads and modulation wheels on the fly:

Here is another impro with a patch where the modulation wheel creates all sorts of rather beautiful overtone transitions, morphing from a more conventional vocal sound to more ethereal sounds:

Made some patches today using Shakespeare quotes, here is one of them, tweaking various parameters via modulation wheel and x/y-pad 1:

That's really a spine tingling auditiv experience. An on the verge of kind atmosphere. What great happening is just around the corner. What is the meaning behind the sound of the voice. I think I've got a sound maker on my short list because of you... again... Phonem is it an iPhonem a good guess would say that it isn't, nope it's far far much bigger than that...
waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

:phones: Thank's for the sonic poetry, I'm having quite a few surreal moments with Phonemklatura lately, mangling these utterances with re-synthesized acoustic sounds, typing in real or invented words and making virtual aliens sing is quite an experience.

Five instances of Phonem using five fresh Phonemklatura patches, 3 of them using granulated soprano sax textures to excite the utterances, one being the solo lead vox in monophonic mode, and some laughing-monkey-voice mocking the whole thing :)

I'm totally amazed about the variety of timbres Phonem can produce...
