How to delete/deactivate account?

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

Nothing in the faq or by searching or even through google. I could just abandon this account, but I'd rather it be deactivated.

Your options are to let it die a natural death, log in to the account and reset the password with random characters you can't/won't recall or tell us how you use warez while posting a donkey pornz vid.

I must admit, I do think all forums should offer a simple way to delete an account if so desired. Are there any major arguments, I might have missed, against this?

I think it would be good to be able to delete one's account - everywhere has unsubscribe now. It seems reasonable to want to have some control over one's online presence.

Here's a bump to this request.

There's at least one user whose account has been deleted in the past, michi_mak, as evidenced here (and more with "michi_mak site:kvraudio.com" web search).

Account deletion should be available for everyone. Perhaps a limit that makes a person hold on to their account for at least five years might be fitting for the spirit of KVR, but at some point it should be possible for everyone without having to ask about it.

He bitched and whined about it for ages (so you're in good company). Then, after the material got deleted, came back and set up a new account.

Deleting the account won't get rid of content that appears in quotes and removing the content makes old threads more difficult to follow.

What's so hard about setting the email and password to gibberish anyway?

It's not particularly difficult to make an account so that it's not possible to log in to it again, but that's not the same as having one's account deleted.

Why? Other than attention seeking, what do you get out of demanding (and maybe getting) deletion rather than just walking away?

In Germany websites are obliged to enable users to delete/close their accounts for good.
I like that, I like keeping things in order, officially closing a chapter and moving on.
It also reduces the number of multiple accounts per user.

"Why" doesn't it really matter, does it? Perhaps it isn't in the top ten most asked features on the site, but clearly it's something that comes up every once in a while (at least one other thread here). There are practical differences between accounts that are abandoned, accounts that are banned and accounts that have been deleted. Though what others have written ought to be enough and people should be able to get it done without making it a public issue.

Funny, just hours ago you were goading Hink into banning you and then wrote how you'd bumped this thread to draw attention to your woes. So, why is it not a public issue now?

What happens in the HPC should stay in the HPC. You're complaining about complications of posts being removed, but now you're referring to something that won't be available to the public a week later. Funny that? If I'd now abandon my account like you suggested, this would remain as my last conversation here, available to anyone clicking on my profile, and the context wouldn't be much clearer because of what you're referring to.

Try and separate that conversation from what this topic is about because they are different issues. You do not know how many times and by which methods I've asked about this privately during my time here.

You wrote that michi_mak got himself removed because he "bitched and whined" about it. Perhaps you remember others pushing it as far as they could in order to have their accounts locked. Can you see there may be a pattern there? Deletion wouldn't be a public issue, if there was a option to remove a user's account.

Is that a rule? If so, you should report my transgression to a mod. If not, congratulations on supplying the context that was meant (apparently) to stay somewhere else.

Can you just hurry up and f**k off without the extended 'KVR should be run the way I want' session? Cheers.

No Gamma-UT, that's my opinion as a participant there. Opinions are mostly what each post is, as you probably know, I thought I wouldn't need to suffix everything with a big "IMHO". Thanks though for slicing it like that and not replying to anything else that I wrote as a reply to you.

whyterabbyt, isn't that a bit harsh approach to someone asking for better service from a service provider?

But sure, I take it that Ben has at least a cursory glance at this forum every once in a while, I've voiced my opinion and there isn't much more to it (though I'm surprised that anyone really needs any explanation to a request like this).
