Stompbox bypass looper with free reordering - does DIY exist?

Just intrigued by these that allow to also reorder pedals in any order with just switching preset. Thinking at least 6-8 pedals.

There are either those that do it affordable like Boss ES-series but are not true bypass - or those that do it true bypass but fixed order of pedals.

These that do both - jump up quite a bit in price.
Decibel Eleven Pedal Palette do 4 pedals and reasonable cost(about $400 or so) - both true bypass and free reordering.
But if to do more, pricetag usually up to double or more.

So thought at least have a look at components needed and what cost would be and compare.

Is the amount of relays needed the culprit of this, or?
Most have display and processor and seems not to be that expensive despite that.

Are there any DIY kits at all for this?
