PROJECT DAC 1.0

Looking into building my own dac system and implement my audio algorithm into it (or on a separate DSP chipset).

If you guy’s have some recommendation of DAC/DSP CHIPSETS (brand’s&model’s) in order to build a 4channel output portable dac (2stereo outputs & stereoinputs).

Perhaps this topic should be moved to the DIY section.

You might take a look at the Terminal Tedium project (uses a Cirrus Logic 24bit/96k codec as a DAC for a Raspberry Pi).

The other projects from mxmxmx (Ornament and Crime and Temps Utile) use a Teensy with a Texas Instruments 16bit DAC, which depending on your needs, may be enough.
I would recommend checking out the boms and documentation for those projects. It was a great starting point for my own experiments.

I would also recommend looking at the DIY resources for Mutable Instrument's Clouds. It uses an Arm Cortex-M4 with the same WM8731 Codec, that the Terminal Tedium uses. It's very easy to customize the firmware.

If search internet for Lampizator you find an interesting project. A standard dac from hongkong, and modifying with hi-end caps in various setups. He got five of those, and did various tests on each one.

Found an old link:

I used my build now for almost 10 years. combining Sanyo OScons and tantal, incredible improvement.

Last time I looked card from hongkong was $120 on eBay.

But for chips as such Crystal Semiconductor chips are well reknowned, now owned by Cirrus Logic though - but use CS as chipmodels.
I used dac's based on those since early 90's.

If you want to browse from what various vendors use - check here:

Have fun....
