Hi Ben, I hope you read this...whether it be my builds and mods, those of others, maintenance, diagnostics and even software coding I notice people often enjoy seeing such projects. I also think there are a lot of KvR members who would love to attempt things but are a little sheepish, on the other side of the coin there are a lot of people who want share what they have done.

From the very simple to the most complicated it seems to me to a valid case for just such a forum. I am going to start a thread very soon on a basic build of a pre-amp for a guitar and I hoped that many would contribute other mods, repairs and builds. However I wonder if a thread is enough as it would be hard to follow, a forum would have multiple threads (hopefully) and maybe even circuit bending could come back.

In this economy a DIY approach is a great way of adding gear, making repairs and saving money. As much as KvR is about supporting developers it would be great to bring out the craftsman in all of us. Covering everything from hardware to software, simple to hard and even the most unique things I have the utmost confidence it would benefit KvR in many ways. I understand from watching my local news that even apps for mobile devices often are not hard to create. While we do have a forum for apps discussing how to create them seems like a great idea to me.

I think many people are more capable of such things than they believe, I know when it comes to electronics I am a layman at best and taking on projects is not only a great way to save money and learn, it also really helps my understanding of how things work. The whole buy a man a fish, teach a man to fish metaphor comes to mind.

I hope you give this some consideration and thanx for your time :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Sounds like a good idea - great place to share DIY links, tips and just discuss or walk people through builds.

I've been meaning to do some DIYing for a while now. I even ordered a soldering iron but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm damn keen on getting me a Teensy and get my C/Assembly skills in order once and for all.
EDIT:Though i worry it'll just be a few more projects on the promising-but-never-finished pile.

Post

I'm interested, too. :)

Same here...this would be right up my alley... :D :D

In the spirit of this new forum, the new mods should hack into k-v-r and...well...DIY.
