A maxed out HP workstation costs 80.000+ so the maxed out MacPro with the 6k screen and all the bells and whistles might be 100.000
But i think the audience which uses/need all this power have no problem with this.
Actually i do not think it is overpriced at all.
They finally delivered something for the real pros.
So not for KVR members
These will standing in all Hollywood studios next year!

ditto that. this far exceeds the needs of the average home studio type musician. there are other options for fewer $$$$ out there in the mac line that get it done. also, plenty of used models from reliable specialist retailers on line.tq wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 8:37 pm Guys, I do not want to defend Apple and their poor choices in the past. I had a cheese grater Mac Pro, and two Power Macs before, so I know about the long time suffering since then, basically doing audio production from a laptop. I also understand the price argument, although this is very much in line with previous high end machines of Apple (esp. when taking overall price increases into account).
However, this is pretty much *exactly* what everyone was hoping for when describing what they wanted to have from a high end Mac Pro: expandable and with endless power. This is nothing like the 'closed' trash can Mac Pro system, but a much more versatile system. So, beyond the price point - what's not to like here?
if i had the cash i'd get the 16 core new hotness in the fall but i have no need. the 2010 mac pro 12 core i bought used a while back is going strong and saved me a ton of cash.

No, this is only expandable Mac Pro, that's the thing, for someone who wants something comparable to desktop PC, this is the thing, not iMac, Mini or whatever.there are other options for fewer $$$$ out there in the mac line that get it done.

They won't. Actually, the next OS iteration will even force all applications to be "notarized" by Apple, and the T2 chip will have a key role in that control. I am guessing lots of "great" things happening

there's always the hackintosh routePassing Bye wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 10:11 pmNo, this is only expandable Mac Pro, that's the thing, for someone who wants something comparable to desktop PC, this is the thing, not iMac, Mini or whatever.there are other options for fewer $$$$ out there in the mac line that get it done.
i hear you.. i mean.. technically, w/thunderbolt all the new macs are expandable in some way. apple has never really been gung ho about reconfigurable upgradable computers. some mac pro and power PC models could be upgraded. back in the day i upgraded my dual 450 g4 up dual 1.2. and video cards can be upgraded in many of them but recent years have left people w/only "configurable at time of purchase" options.
so, yeah the forthcoming mac pro is thing to get if you want a computer to grow w/you.. assuming you can swap out the CPU at some point. not sure that'll be an option either.
i don't think the mac pro/power mac etc have ever really been comparable to desktop PCs when it comes to customization.

If you want a desktop PC, buy a desktop PC. This isn't comparable at all.Passing Bye wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 10:11 pmNo, this is only expandable Mac Pro, that's the thing, for someone who wants something comparable to desktop PC, this is the thing, not iMac, Mini or whatever.there are other options for fewer $$$$ out there in the mac line that get it done.

My bad, replace desktop PC with tower based personal computer. so computer of that kind that runs macOS as operating system without hacking. Now go read all that in context of the actual reply.rezoneight wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2019 11:46 pmIf you want a desktop PC, buy a desktop PC. If that's true then they have failed. Radeon cards just won't cut it in the professional market. They need to put nVidia cards in there, preferably Quadro cards, if that's the market they are chasing.
Why? I don't understand why you'd care if it isn't going to be of benefit to you.Personally, I think it's great to see that they have an expandable high end option again.
Radeon graphics.

SO the went from a giant garbage can/ash tray to a huge cheese grater. Have they run out of design ideas so much that they just copy random objects? Next up, the water fountain Mac Pro? Or maybe the Toaster Mac Pro?

Apple hasn't spec'd a Nvidia card in a macpro since 2009 - so no surprises the new one is still going the AMD route
at least it's got proper industry standard slots again - so if you need quadro/tesla just stuff one in.

the older mac pro towers looked kinda like cheese graters too. the new one just reinforces the look of the cheese appliance family.Echoes in the Attic wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 12:56 am SO the went from a giant garbage can/ash tray to a huge cheese grater. regardless of the look, which i don't mind, it looks like a very smartly designed machine. all the expansion options will meet the needs of just about everyone.. i do wish it started at $2999 but i didn't expect it to. regardless i'll not be in a position to buy a new machine any time soon and so long as most of what i use still supports 10.13.6 i won't be complaining.
my 2010 will support mojave if i stick a new video card in it but i'm in no hurry to update to mojave. i wait as long as possible to update to a new mac os
