Greetings. I have a Scarlett Solo audio interface and I listen to sounds from my computer using that audio interface and a pair of headphones.
The sound is ok in lots of websites and applications (e.g. YouTube and Windows Media Player) but in other websites and apps (e.g. games, SoundCloud, etc.) sound goes weird, like there's an envelope on the sound.
I use windows 10.
Sound goes messy and noisy in some websites, applications.

I think some places use compression and certain musical material does not fit the general parameters the best. Some envelopes as you put it is the transition from going in and out of compression and can be like a pumping effect sometimes.
I don't remember what they call it - but idea is to be able to use lower volume and raise level of silent parts and similar. There are settings for this in many listening devices as well if you want full dynamics or not. Serious places like Spotify can turn it off I think.
