Sorry for the inconvenience here I leave some images of what I have.
the 1212 m

and the 1820 that I bought used with the only cable that brought me that is like an ethernet network cable
Screenshot_20190803-004308_Gallery.jpg
However, the person who sold it to me had a different 1212, with a fireware port and a white connector that can be seen in the image below that is not mine. I think I read that this is an older version.

Is it possible that my version of 1212 m is not compatible with 1820? Does the installation manual show and name another cable that goes to the power supply and the disk drive? I need this? I live in Argentina and I bought the 1820 in the USA since in my country they are not available.

Sorry, before the images of my 1212m with the 1820 did not come out

Do you receive any error? Does the 1820 light up at all? I have only had success using the original Ethernet cable that came with mine though I have heard any CAT5e or higher cable can work. The original cable has ferrite beads around each end to reduce interference in the cable. I think maybe a well shielded CAT7 cable might be worth trying. When I used an inferior cable my 1820 lights up but PatchMix gives an error about insufficient hardware. I tried to replace my cable because one clip is broken off.

Post

It does not light up, it does nothing. My fear was that they were not compatible, so the 1820 is compatible with any version of the 1212m? I'm going to try another cable like the one you say, the person who sold it to me has only sent that one of the image and told me that he didn't remember what cables he had. I will send it to a technician.
In the patchmix does the 1820 have to appear in any way? Should the boxes that say 1/2 dock and others in the I / O configuration be enabled?

Post

Can someone send me a picture of the cable? in my case the patchmix does not recognize it, as if it did not exist

I will find a picture. The dock should power up and the lights should be on even without drivers loaded (if I remember correctly). Did you connect the 4 pin connector from your PC power supply to the 1212? I know that is needed and it’s probably how the card gets enough power to make the 1820 turn on.

So I've looked into this more. Your E-MU 1010 PCI (V2) (EM8960) and 1820 AudioDock are not compatible. Here's what I found from researching. There are a number of E-MU products and only some are compatible. I personally have the 1010 PCI (V1) (EM8810) paired with an 1820 AudioDock.

I think you need to purchase a 1010 PCI (V1) (EM8810) card to match your 1820 AudioDock or a MicroDock (1616 or 1616M) to match your 1010 PCI (V2) (EM8960) card.

One of the main reasons it doesn't work is your card cannot provide power to the dock (though there are probably other incompatibilities). The dock meant for your card has an external DC power source.

It is confusing because E-MU released many different model products with the same names and also branded them by bundle names. I have compiled a list of E-MU products to help sort out compatibility questions:

Cards:
  • 1010 PCI (V1) (EM8810)
    • 4 pin Berg power connector to provide power to AudioDock
    • FireWire connector
    • Works with 1820/1820M AudioDocks

ohhh! This leaves me totally disappointed, bought the 1820 and it does not help me at all. I live in Argentina, I don't think I can make the claim on ebay and get my money back. It's really a shame, I don't know what to do. Here are hard to get these audio boards. I have the paperweight left in 1820.

That really stinks :( and I'm sorry to hear it. I have updated my other post to include more detail I have discovered in my research in case you decide to buy another part to get things working. You could always try and sell one of the parts you don't need on eBay yourself to help recover the cost.

Thank you very much, I don't know what your other publication is, I'm going to look for it. The problem is that I am in Argentina, far away to send. I have a chance of someone coming from there this year, I will see if I can get a reasonable price on 1212 v1. I'm also going to try to sell it around here at 1820 although I don't think I'm lucky. Someone sells this in my country, is it of the same quality as 1820?

I should buy here in Argentina this 1616 which is the only one I have seen for sale, or get the 1010 V1 and keep the 1820? Or maybe with my 1010 V2 buy an 8 channel preamp adat. I don't know, what would you do?

I have seen your plight with the 1820 and feel for you.
As to what to do next...
It depends on what you want to do. The 1616 and 1820 only have 2 mic inputs and so if you need to input 3 or more mics, you're gonna need mic_preamps (more cost). If you only need 2 mics/ and line inputs and the outputs then as to which 1616 or 1010_V1 to get, I would check which is easiest to get in Argentina.
I have a 1212m_V1 and recently added a Behringer ADA8200. This unit has 8 mic/line inputs going straight to the ADAT and accepts the 8 ADAT outputs from the 1212, feeding them to balanced XLRs.
However the 8200 lacks the headphone monitoring that both the 1820 and 1616 have. I have mine running main output to the 8200 feeding my monitors and can take the analog output from the 1212 to a small mixer for headphones. This works well with my system, which is mainly working with Eurorack.
I have not tried the 8200 mic inputs yet as I have a Focusrite Voicemaster and a Joe Meek VC£ preamps. The 8200 has MIDAS Mic_Preamps, so should be OK.

To be clear about the 8200.. the inputs go direct to the ADAT as do the sound card outputs go direct to the XLRs... there is not interaction between these... IE: you can't use the 8200 as an analog mic preamp, it has to go via the sound card ( I have seen forums where guys thought they could just use the 8200 without computer.)

There are other solutions, eg. Focusrite Claret octo_pre ( the Scarlet only goes one way, I think) but they cost more.

Hope this helps.
And ty ClubHouse for your input.. brothers united by our soundcards... ;)

Hi toonertik, thanks for your comment. Before buying the 1820, I was interested in a focusrite platinum octopre, it was double, it was obviously used as well. At the moment I already spoke here in my country with the person who sells 1616, next week I think I will be able to buy it. With that for now I would be, since so far I have not needed to record more than two channels. Anyway I am talking to someone in the USA to buy the 1010 V1, because it is useless to have the 1820 and I do not think anyone is interested in buying it here in Argentina. If that goes well in a month or two, a friend comes from there to my country. In that case I would have both combos; 1010 v1 + 1820 and 1212m + 1616. I would like to ask two questions:
1. Is it possible to use 1212m and 1616 at the same time? bone plate 1010 and 0202 plus 1616.
2. The inputs with TRS connector that the 1616 owns are only balanced right? are not preamplified? in that case it would not be convenient for me to record, for example, a direct bass line from there. This is in case you had both front panel inputs occupied. What are these balanced inputs on the rear panel?

I thank everyone and especially clubhouse for their help on this issue. I think it is worth refloating our EMU.

Additional notes on the updated drivers on win7 x64:

For manual dll registration for the x64 asio driver:

administrator console, the command:

Code: Select all

REGSVR32.EXE C:\Windows\System32\CTASIO64.DLL
The mixer EmuPMixDSP.exe process might end up eating significant amount of resources (RAM and CPU) leadig to a slow responding mixer window. You can try to enable the compatibility mode for this executable to "XP SP3" , this could solve this issue. Other options might work as well.

On my phone, it was very difficult to follow the whole thread with the photos that weren't there (or were). But before you start tossing out hardware, please note that the E-MU boards were known for failing capacitors. When these capacitors failed, the docking station wouldn't light up properly--or it would light up for only a second.

This is a relatively easy, less-than-$1 fix! I know, because I did it myself on my PCIe 1820m last year.

I can provide more details if you think this is actually the case with whatever is going on here. Again, I'm sorry I couldn't follow the thread properly, but it's very long, and the screens jump around while waiting for pictures to load--only to see an empty, black box. But if you're having a problem with your docking station staying powered, it's almost certainly the capacitors, Replacing the two bad ones is very cheap, and can be done fairly quickly and easily, even if you're still a novice at soldering. Trust me on this.
