Excellent!!!
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

I was very happy to see this too. VST3 is the future, and I'm glad to see that it's being supported!

A few years back I had a functional DAW running under a specialized distro variant of Puppy LInuxcalled Puppy Studio on a Thinkpad T61p with a E-MU 1616M cardbus dac interface. At some point the project was abandoned but recently there seems to be some new life and interested coming back to it. Here is the install instructions for the original distro.

Hi, Puppy Studio kept growing and improving, and has been
a commercial distro available on usbstick, or as an iso file,
for a long time now. (I think an older version is free,
but don't have the details)
I recently used unetbootin to burn
the latest Studio 1337 to a usb stick, and it is a pleasure to use.
Here is a link to the dev's recent announcement:

There are also a pair of recent Studio 1337 topics:

I'm checking out this thread for the first time. And as long as it is, no way to go back and read through ever single post.
My main DAW is Bitwig on my PC workstation, the one I actively produce music on. For learning purposes, and with an eye towards audio application development, I have just dipped my toes into the Linux waters. I've installed Ubuntu on an HP notebook workstation. Since I want to use the notebook as a programming environment, I have opted to use the base Ubuntu kernel and not Ubuntu Studio. I am having challenges getting Ardour up and running, and Jack and Pulse audio all playing well together. I've very eager to dive in, and would like to know good resources on-line for questions and such.
As a Linux audio noob, I'd like to find a helpful forum. Which forums are you having positive experiences with? Right here on KVR? Linuxmusicians.com? Linuxaudio.org? (EDIT: Looks like Linuxaudio.org is not a forum)
Thanks for any tips you can provide. I'm completely OK with DAWs in PCs, digital audio and all, it's just Linux audio that I'm new to, and wanting to get a good start with.

This is the linux Harrison Mixbus forum, good answers there,

Backtracking this topic, there are some posts in the last
few dozen or so pages covering using wine/wineasio,
LinVst plugin wrapper, wine over-rides
to enable a wider range of vst compatibility, and there is a
separate topic made recently, for commercial software use
in linux
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=503359
and the Bitwig forum gets a fair share of linux discussions, some important
info just posted today by mevla, who is an experienced linux Bitwig user,
among other good credentials
viewforum.php?f=259
Backtracking that forum should prove useful.
Welcome to the kvr assimilation/redemption/recycling center. a great place to start any weekend

LOL! Thanks again!
With Bitwig as main DAW on my PC, I'm taking my time with the learning on the Linux machine. I'm in the Bitwig forum often and have seen a few Linux posts over there. When I am confident I have my Linux machine set up right (using Ardour as a test DAW), I'll Bitwig on it.

One of the Surge synth open-source project developers
request synth lovers to test the nightly builds of Surge,
to help perfect the upcoming 1.62 release.
There are .deb files available, so no compiling should
be necessary. Surge will soon be one of the best synths available
as a native linux product.
Cheers

You're not the only one who has troubles w/ Jack and that wretched, darned PulseAudio. I'd ask a question in the Linuxmusicians forum if I were you. I've been using Linux as my standard OS since 2005 and even I'm pretty confused 'bout all the audio querks in Linux (Jack, Linux VST, Windows VST, etc., etc.).sagetone wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 6:50 pm [...] I have just dipped my toes into the Linux waters. Me too ha ha. No, seriously, I've been very active in the Dutch Linux forum (NedLinux.nl) which since a few weeks is defunct. I never bothered to go to another forum because the people there were so good/professional. Went to an Ubuntu forum once, but that distro is so popular that there were a lot of numbnuts there. Couldn't get a proper answer to my question. Am looking for a proper English Linux forum now too. So if you find one, tell me...
As for now: on to the Linuxmusicians forum.

Hi @MeneerJansen, my primary DAW is Bitwig, so I installed it on my Linux notebook. I have found good support here in KVR in the Bitwig forum, several Linux discussions there. I've gotten it running pretty well. Minor issue on CPU usage which I will tackle when I have some time, but other than that, it's now working pretty well. Thanks for the tip on linuxmusicians forum. I've visited it a few times, but not joined or posted yet.

You're more than welcome there! Added bonus is that Linux specific posts there catch the eye faster of Linuxers than here. If you've got troubles w/ Jack (like everybody on Linux in the beginning) post there. My username there is 'Linuxmusician01'.

Cool, thanks @MeneerJansen! It's going to be several weeks before I can get back to this, but will check it out when I can.
