It is an idea, a flickering of a thought.

Can we, as a community, establish a free - open source - sound base for HG Fortune and Algo Music instruments that use sf2 files?

This would have to be completely free. Something done in honour of two souls that have passed. But full of sounds that can be useful in the instruments they were associated with.

It would give life to those instruments and maybe some remembrance for those of us still here.

I cannot host it. It would have to be on a non-affiliated server.

Sounds/samples and presets for various instruments would be needed.

Is something like this even possible?

I ask..... ?

I will add a related thought: Is a group effort, like a KVR Developer-One-Synth-Challenge, possible to update those instruments and make them cross-platform? The great teamwork on PaulStretch and OB-Xd are examples.

I can upload piece by piece sf2 files (20 GB) but not host it.
On internet archive it's terrible. There is a new beta uploader running.
You can't load in an existing post like in later times.

Paule,

Your files - are they sounds the Guenter later used in his own sf2 files or are they ones that were never part of Guenters sf2's?

I ask because I am looking at it like this. We cannot re-distribute any of Guenters sf2 files. They are only distributed with his instruments.

I would like to collectively create a set of sf2 files that could be used in both Guenters instruments and something like Algo Music M42. Of course, the M42 needs it own format 4 banks of 5 sounds per sf2 file.

I would be willing to use some sounds from my own soundsets to contribute and also work on something new.

Any ideas?

For hosting, I have no idea.

A small part of the 20 gb are re-build from his instruments or his owns given to me by Guenter Hager like the Serenity set. The most are not part of HG Fortunes wonderful machines. All sf2 I have build are in your own hands also. So you can take a choice for uploading.
Internet archive.org has no flash uploader for FireFox anymore. There is no support by FF at Flash. But if you create a new thread and use the ‚Edit‘ button to load up more files. I just test it. Limits on archive.org is zip format only and you can rar or 7zip a file and than zip it for accepting the suffix in internet archive. In this way it's really smaler as a zip only file.

Daniel, if you want to upload more files step on 'Edit' on the left side from your title. Then to the butterfly: changes the files. And add more ones .. submit .. done!
If flash is inactive 'greyed uploader field' deactivided flash and use classic uploader.

The acces to an account I create 2 month before can't reach anymore. So the way HG Fortune show up is spaced out. We've to collect SF2 files and load up at once.
