Just dusted off my Youtube page (where I realized I had not bothered to post music in FOREVER) and uploaded a preview of a track from a recently-finished new album I plan to put out in early 2020. The material on this album is kinda/sorta conceptual rock, albeit with guitars (which are usually more dominant in this kind of music) pushed to the background with more emphasis on synths/electronic sounds. Obviously this sort of genre-blending won't be everyone's cup of java, but like the old song says, I've gotta be me.

Very good, everything I hoped it would be.

Let me guess. You do this professionally. When I hear stuff this good at this forum, it makes me just want to take up rock collecting. I can't even comprehend doing something this well mixed.

What can I say? Absolutely perfect.

I wish I did this as my actual profession, hehe. Just another obscure indie artist cranking out music from a modest home studio with a day job to pay the bills. But thank you kindly for the compliments, good sir - much appreciated!

Well if you can't make it in this business then there is no hope for people like me. Have you tried or is it simply not something you're interested in doing professionally?

It's partly not having really gone after it full-bore when I was younger and also the fact that the albums I released in the past were, in hindsight, very deeply-flawed and not the sort of thing that could have launched a career. (CDbaby automatically posted some of that stuff to Youtube and it makes me cringe - a lot of it is really not good at all and, to borrow a line from Neil Peart, it's like having your kindergarten drawings still pasted to the fridge when you're grown up.)

I'm at the stage of life now where, even in the unlikely event that some progressive rock label became interested in me, it would be hard to justify the risk of quitting my job and dropping everything to go out on tour the way people can when they're in their twenties and have so much time to bounce back if things don't work out.

Believe me, I understand. Well, as long as you enjoy making music, that's all that really matters.

It feels a bit like if Tears for Fears, 80's King Crimson, and Robert Berry had a love child. Good work!

I had Marillion "Seasons End" on and this is rather similar. Which is a good thing.

Nicely done. gets quite grand at the end :-D

Thanks for the listens, guys. It's often interesting how everyone perceives different points of reference when listening to the same song. And also that no one who's heard this has said "Rush" yet. I think I've diluted what used to be a very obvious influence in my younger days, with the main remnant being a hint of Geddy that sometimes still comes out in my bass playing.

And hopefully I can be forgiven for going nuts with those Mini solos. It's something I hadn't really done in years and I know it's terribly out of fashion, but I figured what the hell, on just this one song I'll be impetuous and do it anyway. :D
