From my CD "No Signal"

All The Same

And so how it goes
The darkness in our minds
But who is it to blame
This warped and twisted game
In the end its all the same

We go through our days
Wondering what for
It all seems for naught
And yet we still want more

But who is it to blame
This warped and twisted game
In the end its all the same

But who is it to blame
This warped and twisted game
In the end its all the same

From my current work in progress CD "Divas"

Carbon Dating

Looking for a life form life form
Something outside the norm
Two eyes three eyes got no preference
Doesn't need to be born

Cold and distant
In an instant
No point waiting
Contemplating

Carbon dating
Patch me into your machine
Carbon dating
Look for something in between
Living matter
Gray goop splatter
I'm done waiting
Carbon dating

Futuristic sci fi sci fi
Can it look me in the eye
One head two heads got no preference
Either bad or good guy

Man or cyborg
Emu or Korg
No point waiting
Contemplating

Repeat Chorus

Ready set begin
In the state I'm in
Hook me up in time
Make that carbon mine

Repeat Chorus

Mannequin

Look at me...I am a mannequin
I can be...anything you need
Bend my arms...watch me wink at you
If you want...I can take the lead

Look at me...I am a mannequin
I'm as real...as any girl
Hold me close...feel me holding you
If you want...I can rock your world

Hold me squeeze me hug me tease me now
Kiss me Love me I will show you how

Look at me...I am a mannequin
Take me home...Let me meet your dad
I can be...anything you need
Very good...or very bad

Repeat Middle 8 2x

So much fun...You and your mannequin
I'm a ten...Or so it seems
We will meet...This same time tomorrow night
In your bed...And in your dreams

She's a mannequin
She's a mannequin (to fade)

Bodhisan wrote:Wags, take this as a compliment: Your music is in the artery (for the good) of Broadway. Maybe that’s been said before, but I think you missed your calling as a Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webberesque type composer - but you do both words and music - which is a cool. Again, please take this as a compliment, but your music usually sounds “familiar” yet a bit unique, which is what I think of when I think of musicals. In other words, from my humble vantage point - :tu:
For what Steven is posting on this thread I actually agree with this 100%. Steven, you obviously have a very wide pallette when it comes to compositional chops. I really enjoyed your prog rock project you posted up a while back. This stuff I could 100% see being the soundtrack to some kind of musical. I agree with others that it would be great to have a real vocalist, but heck, it would be great if I could have an actual symphony orchestra backing some of my stuff. We all make compromises to actually produce stuff with what we have at our disposal. Thanks for sharing.

Another one from my CD "80s Squared"

Nuclear Fallout

Watch the rain falling down
As it lands on the ground
People light up like signs
And I'm losing my mind

What's going on here
Death's coming real near
Ain't nothing to doubt
Nuclear Fallout

In our shelters we go
As we trudge through the snow
Nothing much left to give
Wonder how long we'll live

Repeat Chorus 2x

Another one from my CD "80s Squared"

Dancing With Davy Jones

Dancing with Davy Jones

It's the craze around the nation
Everybody's doing the thing
Grab a corpse and dress him in cashmere
Spin him round till he gives you his ring

It's a dance with a dead man
It's a waltz with some bones
It's your destiny calling
When you're dancing with Davy Jones

It's not hard to find a partner
Just a pistol will do the trick
Put a bullet into his thick skull
Or just find a good solid brick

Repeat Chorus

So come on and join the new craze
I can promise you quite a thrill
Find your soul mate there in an instant
When they bring you in for the kill

Repeat Chorus 2x

Ooo wah
Ooo wah
Ooo wah
Ooo wah (to fade)

Modern Talking

Will you please explain
Why you don't talk to me anymore
Are my words too old
Is that why you just walk out the door

Parlez vous francais
Is the language of love that you crave
Is that what you need
From my lips for our love now to save

I can do modern talking
If you need modern talking
We can have modern talking
At night

I can do modern talking
If you need modern talking
We can have modern talking
For life

When the lights are low
Try so hard to be all that I can
But you are so cold
And I know that I'm just not a man

Enough for you
And I don't know what else I can do
You leave me no choice
But to try in a much different voice

Repeat Chorus 2x

When In Rome

Feel the air around your face
Clean and warm sweet embrace
In your eyes I can see
All the love you have for me

So while we're here (When in Rome)
Let's play the part
And feel the love
Inside your heart

Love it comes but once for real
And my heart there to steal
Here and now me and you
Do the thing that we must do

Repeat Chorus 2x

When in Rome
When in Rome
When in Rome
When in Rome with you

Another one from my "80s Squared" CD.

Evil Twin

Out of the lab
On a dark dark night that's calling
Rise from the dead
All around me night is falling

Coming now
Don't know how but

It's my evil twin
It's my evil twin
It's my evil twin
Come to destroy me

Look at his face
It was like a mirror shining
Reach for my throat
Try to find a silver lining

And I fear
Death is near..yes

I've listened to all Wagtunes' songs in this thread and they all have potential:

1) The melodies and harmonies match up much more convincingly and musically than some pieces that are taken much more seriously on this forum.
2) The actual melodies are generally well-constructed...not perfect by any means, but quite well-shaped. One is still stuck in my head and that has to be a good sign for any tune.
3) Some quite interesting lyrics as well...might need pruning here and there, but they catch your attention.
4) Production in all needs development: Those artificial voices grate after a while; the general sound stage is very flat; quality of the actual sounds could be better
5) Other music elements also need development - harmonies could be tweaked to ebb and flow more effectively and the texture could do with more variation at times.

What I don't really understand is why Steven is posting them here at all...

In another thread he clearly says that he composes because he enjoys it and doesn't take it too seriously at all. He also mentions that he doesn't care what others think...

In that case, my advice is: carry on enjoying the composing, (it's good for you), but just keep it to yourself + maybe a select few people who will give you polite, useful feedback.

I post here because this is the Music Cafe where this stuff belongs and thus, since I'm not breaking any forum rules, I'm allowed to post here.

It could be worse. I could have made a separate thread for each song (like many do here) and you'd end up with a whole page of my threads. This way, everything is contained to one thread which people are more than welcome to ignore. Nobody is forcing anybody to come here.

Having said all that, thank you for your comments. They are appreciated.

Fair enough Steven...I'm, personally more than happy for you to post if you are now more at ease with the whole experience!

I can guarantee that I will ALWAYS give you polite and useful feedback! :0)

From my CD "Bananas Crackers And Nuts" a little 70s disco.

Blame It On The DJ

In the night with the drinks a flowing
It's hard for me to see straight
Neither one of us a knowing
That this would be our last date

But the gods of disco shine on
And bring the beat to our lives
And the food we care to dine on
It's how our love still survives

And so it goes the blame who knows
But we know whose the one who made it happen

Blame it on the D J
Blame it on the D J
Blame it on the D J
That we fell in love

All our days are now right before us
I'm seeing better right now
Our true love cannot ignore us
Romantic night showed us how

From my CD "V Pop". This is kind of a Broadway like number.

Wanting To Be Free Again

Wanting to be free again
Wanting to be free to touch the stars in the sky
Wanting just to see again
Wanting just to see that loving look in your eyes
But these chains that bind me lock me away
Deep inside my soul where nothing can stay
I long to break free to live another day

Wanting to be free again
Wanting to be free to know there is good all around
Wanting to be free again
Wanting to be free to see all the sights hear the sounds
But the past that holds me won't let me go
Stuck inside this hell it's all just a show
I need to break free more than you'll ever know

When I look all around
All I hear is the sound
Of my life just passing me by
While I'm staring at the ground

When I'm feeling confused
When I feel I've been used
All that I can do is just cry
Knowing how I've been abused

Wanting to be
Needing to be
Free
Free

The title track from my CD "Botany Bay"

Botany Bay

Heading on down to botany bay
Where the flora play
They say (The sun shines all day)

Heading on down to botany bay
Not a care today
Okay (We have it our way)

Peaceful
So peaceful
Down at botany bay
