Yes and please do go on making an instrument device out of my patch. I do appreciate that. To be honest, I still am not into making those devices but I will learn more over time. I still don´t trust the system 100%. What if I made a device and later I want to add a tonload of new modules and modulations?

I hear you:) But your concern goes exactly to my opinion that there's no reason for new owners to treat devices as any more "precious" or difficult to use (for experts only) than GPresets, or that they need to be extraordinary or carefully polished, "finished", etc., to be worth building at all.

If the Device was made for you only or for possibly sharing freely, if you ever want to add new stuff to it, just do it and save a new one! Won't hurt the old one. To me, the greatest feature of devices is that you can make presets just for them, so the only requirement for a GPreset being worth making into a device is if it's capable of making MANY different sounds (which you can load into it much faster than GPresets load), not just the ones you've saved GPresets for from it. And the main other thing the Easy Screen does for you is put all the most important controls for your most interesting grids onto one screen, with maybe a few tabs, instead of scattered all around in dozens of panels and popups, with endless other parameters you may never need. So, efficiency AND creative focus. Along with a few totally cool unique features, like focused randomizing and quick-draw bar-graph controls, NOT available in EDIT mode.

All the "study and follow the requirements" and "wait til it's finished" sort of posts and comments are only about devices being sent to Vojtech, to see if they pass his judgement on them as suitable for use by the LE- and Player-version users, with no edit screen access, and presumed to be wanting nothing more than medium-complexity devices, each one narrowly focused on just a few sound types.

But we OWNERS of the full version have no such limitations. And while we're of course fascinated to see what brilliant things all the Melda MP experts will come up with, we don't need to approach making our own-use devices with anything like the same "requirements" and standards that the for-the-factory builders have to keep in mind.

Bottom-line points:
1. An MSF device is how MSF becomes a specific synth (not nec. specialized, but potentially multi-purpose), with its own unique features AND Presets, rather than an endlessly complex tool for building specific synths.

2. A quick, thrown-together device that lets you focus on your cool new grid arrangement without distractions, and save DPresets for it, is totally worth learning to make and doesn't need any of the polish and ease of use restrictions Factory Devices do. So, the sooner we learn how to do that, the sooner we'll be using MSF at "full strength":) IMO, natch…

Here's a little quick-made device w/no presets yet, but ready for them, borne out of a quick check-out of the Cab module (LOVE it), and of whether an MP can capture Easy Screen presets from Rhythmatizer and Wobbler Ex (yes!).

I dunno if it's Exchange worthy as is. But I'm certain it's already fun, and with plenty of possible variations worth saving as DPresets, so it's also a pretty good test of the usefulness of making and sharing Devices as simple as this, not for the Factory Device Collection, perhaps, but just amongst full-version owner/users…some of whom might like to create some Presets for it and share those as Exports, then zipped attachments, here. Or anywhere MSF'ers gather.

It's the sort of potential sharing community that appeals to me; anybody else?

It'd be handy, I think, to have a Set All Defaults to Current Value option ("All" meaning all MPs), to be used when about to Save Device… and wanting to make sure you know up front what the device will sound like when saved. Sort of like setting the display frame in a YT video…

I may have your intention wrong, but here's how I map a drum kit in one instance of MSF

(it's less annoying and convoluted than it appears, honest...)

1. Don't use the Generator tab (as you can't set the note range of individual Generators)
2. In the FX tab, place a Modular16 (or other modular, if you need more/less slots)
3. Enable MIDI Input for the Modular16 (right-click)
4. In each column of Modular16, place an instance of MSF
5. Set the note range of each MSF (by right-clicking the MSF you placed in Modular16)
6. In each MSF, build your sound!

If you don't need more than 6 slots, you can place MSF directly in the FX tab columns, rather than use a Modular (but you lose the ability to set oversampling individually for each instance)
Gotta say - Doing it like this DEFINITELY introduces latency in the simplest of configurations. I loaded up 3 MSF instances, and during realtime playback, the latency became pretty detectable.

Sorry to hear that—haven't tried exactly this myself, but I will, to see what happens here…thanks. I haven't yet noticed any latency on multiple FX-instrument instances when making no changes to their note ranges, fwiw.

I do think it's worth remembering that as a drum-machine-making strategy, this is a pre-sampler workaround. No doubt when the Sampler functions are finally in place this sort of thing won't be nec.

And hopefully as well, multi-instance latencies, too, will have been addressed!

I detect no inherent latency in having MSF host note-ranged instances of itself within the FX section (whether encapsulated in a Modular, or not)

Perhaps some of those hosted MSFs in your instrument have their own FX modules that are creating latency? Pitch-shifting and spectral FX modules generally introduce this..

I've often got (way) more than 2 open at a time (and am delighted they don't automatically close!) during long building sessions, and have no way to distinguish between them except from their contents (which is of course often nothing but a string of randomized names) or my memory.

I didn't have a specific situation in mind when making the suggestion that only visible MP values should be set as default - more like just "thinking out loud". However, in recalling some of the mysterious issues I encountered when dealing with saved devices that got initialized differently from saved global presets from which they were created gave me pause for concern. So, automatically setting defaults from MP values you can't see ... that *might* be a source of unwanted behavior ... but might not.

As to use cases for hidden MPs, there are actually quite a few situations we're I've found them of value. One case is where several visible MPs all control a single attribute, so the "master" MP is hidden and all the visible ones enact their purpose via the hidden control. Another case is where I had a bunch of switches (organ stops actually) that together selected a bank MP entry. It was a bit tricky, but it was the only solution I could come up with for accomplishing what I was after.

A first priority important one for the...

FM module:

In the bottom place under each OP there is still unused space when making the modules window bigger.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add special dedicated (not regular Env 1-8) envelopes with mouse touch points under each OP for quick and easy envelop modification. Otherwise working with FM module is real hell. I worked for hours with 8 OPs now and I think there is NO DEBATABLE ALTERNATIVE if one likes to work deeply with that module to produce complex patches ;) This should be called ESSENTIAL otherwise the whole module is useless. To have seamless access in ONE WINDOW to the dedicated OPs envelops is one of the essential bases of FM synthesis in nowadays modern instruments environment.

By the way. This module sounds veeery good. I made some extreme cool sounds. But I will not ever touch the module again till an update.

SLIDERS going to left and right with their values should be controlled via mouse thru a horizontal movement. But at the moment it requieres an vertical up and down movement, whats not so good and confusing too. A fix should be an easy thing :) Thank you.
