Reconnecting midi device creates new device

I'm using a Roland um-one midi-usb cable. Every time I have it connected and load cantabile it appears as e new device. I've now got 5 listed in cantabile, the most recent is called 5-UM ONE.

This means I have to reconfigure my midi assignments and filters each time.

I don't think it's cantabile getting it wrong: I think the system is registering it as a new device.

I'd be very greasteful for any ideas or suggestions.
