Tau Pro (Mac AU 2.0) crashes Mac Audio

Hi,

I'm a happy customer of Muon products for a long time, but now it happened to me, too - literally over night.

Yesterday a played around with TauPro in Logic Express 8 and everything worked fine. Then I missed some presets from the installation (got my new Mac a few weeks ago and not everything has been transferred so far) and installed the demo version. When I got my presets, I re-installed the full version and everything was fine again. That was yesterday.

This morning I re-opened the Logic Project and Tau Pro now refuses to work. When I'm lucky, it plays the first few notes, then my audio system seemingly crashes, I only get clicks and peaks and none (!) of my programs with audio output (including iTunes) has any output. I always have to restart my Mac in order to get it back working.

I don't use special hardware, it's only the internal soundcard of my MacBook Pro.

Worst of all: I don't have a clue, why it crashes now. I didn't do any system changes since yesterday and now Tau Pro even crashes in Garageband. Deleting the TauPro-plist had no effect.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Oh, I forgot:

Apple MacBook Pro 13" / OS X Leopard 10.5.7
Logic Express 8.0.2
Garageband 5.0.2

It certainly seems to me that when Logic crashes, it doesn't exit properly - which is why your audio system doesn't start working again until you restart your Mac.

If you have a copy of the Logic crash log, please email it to me at the service email address on our website. Unfortunately since I can't reproduce the issue, and haven't had any other reports of a similar issue I'm unable to offer any immediate resolution other than that.

Kind regards

Hi Dave,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, there's no crash report in the logs folder. So I can't provide you with the requested information.

In the meantime I tried it with a new song and on a different Mac. In both cases TauPro is working as expected. So it's either a Mac hickup or the songfile where I used TauPro is corrupted for unknown reasons. (But the latter doesn't explain the trouble I also got in Garageband)

Anyhow: I'll keep it under observation and worst case would be to re-build the corrupted songfile from scratch, which isn't that much work.

BTW: Is there a newer release of TauPro? My version is 2.0 / July 6th 2008

Just to double check something - you mentioned Logic 8 in your post but I haven't ever been able to reproduce the issue myself in Logic 8 but in Logic 9 I consistently get the exact symptoms you described. I don't get the same problem in any other AU or VST host, either. Another user emailed me with the same symptoms in Logic 9.

I'm looking into it right now, I will let you know what I find out. I will fo course send you another installer as promised in response to your email.

Just to reawaken an old thread - I think the v2.0.2 update might be worthwhile for you even if the problem has apparently gone away.

Drop me an email (contact details on the site, or email via KVR) referencing this thread and I'll make sure you receive the update manually.
