Haha... pretty cool sounds to sample for further processing, but yeah... that video sums up pretty much everything I dislike about modulars...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. In a little on-the-side rack-case with the Korg Volka Modular and a BASTL Kastle (or two, or three).
A little bit better demo of the 400 sounds.

550€ for the yellow one...
3 oscillators
1 noise generator
1 random generator
1 lfo
1 filter
2 vcas
2 ADSR
1 sequencer
Is there any cheaper modular solution to this which I'm not considering? Really asking.
On the other side, I seriously dislike the "prototype-look" which some people seem to appreciate in the youtube comments.
edit: forgot the lfo in the list

^ that ^ I'd add a Behringer NEUTRON and an SQ-1, which would still leave you with some change, and give you way more for the money. Expand from there, after you get a power supply ($100-200 by itself) and some rails. [2c]

The sequencer does look nifty. The big one is sold out already (first run) I believe. I woulda ordered the sequencer, still 4 weeks till ship. So I’ll wait a bit and see.
*out of stock anyway. Maybe not finished or something, rather than sold out.

Seriously. But, I'm diggin' the orange, actually. Just need to go find the measurement specs, to figure out racking it. (and what will fit next to, and above/below it)

I don’t love the flimsy self-assembled cases. I can’t imagine them holding up to the demands of daily patching. But I suppose if you can’t afford anything more durable, don’t want to save up for something better, and want to get into modular, you probably aren’t too concerned about the long term investment.
As for DIY, you definitely pay for it with your own time investment. I’ve just finished building a set of Prok drum modules from Thonk. I would have preferred to spend a bit more and get them fully assembled, but DIY was the only option for those. I’m glad I did it, because they sound fantastic, and I actually kind of enjoyed the meditative aspect of spending a few nights soldering away.

I foresee a 'support' nightmare just with people botching the assembly of these. And a considerable second hand market springing-up rather quickly. Am curious to see how they approach the individual modules sales. What form-factor? Will they have eurorack face plates, etc?deastman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 10:08 pm I don’t love the flimsy self-assembled cases. I can’t imagine them holding up to the demands of daily patching. (And yes, DIY soldering/assembly is way zen.)
