sooooo......
am i the only one whos pretty disappointed in this thing? i had very high hopes for it (perhaps too high) and...to me, it just seems that its less than the sum of it parts. i feel like this collaboration plays against the strengths of both companies.
i know its early...but the sound just isnt there. i havent heard/seen a single demo where i thought it sounded good. its missing that thick juicy dreadbox goodness.
it seems to me that for a little bit more $$...one would be better off getting a pyramid and an erebus.
id be happy to be proven wrong though.....i was really looking forward to this.

I'd agree that I'm slightly underwhelmed so far. The Erebus 3 sounds/looks awesome though.

As far as I know the unit at Superbooth was a prototype and it maybe the videos that are out show the digital side of the synth...remember it's an analog/digital hybrid. The analog oscillator also have FM, so if used, this will instantly reduce any of the "thick juicy" sound you might be expecting.
It looks like a complex synth, which deserves a proper appraisal in person and not by judging videos from a trade show floor.

where did you hear it was a prototype?himalaya wrote:As far as I know the unit at Superbooth was a prototype and it maybe the videos that are out show the digital side of the synth...remember it's an analog/digital hybrid. and i dont think anyone is "judging" it already....these are just first impressions. if they didnt want people getting an impression....they wouldnt do the video would they? the entire point of superbooth is to put these products out there for people to see. i would expect they would present the things in the best possible light they could. so far...to me...its a tad disappointing in the sound dept. i do hope that with more videos...that will change....but ive seen a bunch of videos already...and...well....it sounded pretty much the same in all of them.
again....i know its very early on...and i hope im completely wrong.
i also think its a bit unrealistic to expect everyone to be able to check these out in person.

I understand what you are saying, but equally, you need to realise that many products find their way to these trade shows in a state which is not ready for full and proper demonstration. This happens all the time. I remember one year there was a company at NAMM with this new synth+sequencer which we couldn't even touch. It was a prototype and it was set up in such a way that to mess about with the knobs would probably crush the firmware or something like that...So you get companies rushing to show their new gear at these trade shows, and the gear may be in various state of disrepair! Such is life.chaosWyrM wrote: if they didnt want people getting an impression....they wouldnt do the video would they? the entire point of superbooth is to put these products out there for people to see. i would expect they would present the things in the best possible light they could. .
Then Piotr himself said in the video that there are features which are yet still to come, so this tells me that the sound design hasn't been done yet, so what you hear are half-baked sounds made in a hurry for Superbooth...hence...patience...let's wait and see, or rather hear...

Any good examples of this? Would love to compare it, as I'm not very known with the other Dreadbox synthschaosWyrM wrote:eh....still missing that thick luscious dreadbox sound.

I'm pretty sure the basic midi to cv stuff was only part of the old Medusa plan, back when it was black and orange looked totally different in every other respect too. ie before Polyend went from just making a very simple sequencer for it, to doing the grid and the digital oscillators etc. It's really hard to compare these two versions of the Medusa, they are very different beasts in so many ways.chaosWyrM wrote:hhmmm......it used to say it had midi to cv....but i dont see that listed anymore. maybe they scrapped it?wickfut wrote:No mention of any CV/gate outputs?
you can still find old write ups where they say it...but its not part of the current description on the polyend or dreadbox websites.
