Apologies for the stupid reply but as your asking about Ambient and posting a Selena Gomez video I assumed you was taking the piss. Sorry

i mean, what would you call that background synthie in that SG track then?

whatever it is called - to me it sounds outstandingly beautiful and i would like to get into this sort of sounddesign

Post

look on any synth, under presets find "pads" in some synths you may also get "ambient" patches.
dissect those patches and you're on your way.
there is no magick one synth, they can all do similar sounds, it's just which of the many has that edge for you.

I think that's pretty unique sound design in first few seconds. Something sample-based probably, with apparent pitch-shifting. Maybe some spectral or granular processing was involved.

Certainly it's not a copy-paste preset any VA could deliver.

layers!
theres different sounds modulating in there.
i dont think it's a single synth. but each one will be a pad type sound, then fed in to aux send reverb and other processes.

so no not simple, but hes got to start somewhere :)

You could do all of that with Hybrid3 which is probably what they used, it's not that complex of a sound, just maybe two synths of the same type. Honestly it just sounds like the same sound played three octaves apart.

It's not even close to Ambient, it's your typical lush slightly chorused noisy string synth pad EDM sound used in pretty much any pop song for the last 15+ years now. The only difference here is it's not being ducked by a kick drum for that super fleek pumping sound... :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

It's a Ambient sub genre called "Crapbient". Everybody's bouncin' 2 dat shit deez dayz.

why would you call a good sounding synth that obviously millions of people enjoy crap?

You mean a synth sound, not a synth.

Beat was likely made by taking an Omnisphere preset, resampling it, then transposing it, and throwing Izotope Vinyl on it.
