Guys,

After being helped big time in my last post i decided to ask you again for help.

I'm looking (i think) for a VST that can get me that hot kalimba/marimba sounds like:

from the start ;-)

02:18

I looked in the Kontakt 5 - West Africa library but couldn't find the right sound. Hope someone can
help me. I work in Logic.

Thank guys :hihi:

Check this website out and have a good rummage. These are the percussion instruments but they are not really up to the standard of what you are after.
try DMI hammer or marimka. Your best bet would be something like Kong Drum Designer out of Reason 5+

I had a similar patch not long ago, it might sound like what your'e after..other than that try looking for the best samples available. Plug ins are a bit far and wide to find in this subject, well for me anyway. I got a free marimba type patch from music tech a few years ago, but unfortunately i cant seem to find where to get it from. it would have probably got you on your way. I thought you were on Pc earlier so sorry, my mistake.

There's definitely room for someone to come out with a velocity sampled round-robin kalimba.

That soniccouture one is cool, and sounds beautiful, but when i feel like using a kalimba it's partly because i want all of the noise, scraping, buzzing, and dull notes that go along with it.

If I had any scripting ability I would give it a go.
I run a netlabel http://oligopolistrecords.bandcamp.com
Free chill, hip-hop, lo-fi, ambient, experimental, for you! (Send me demos too!)

Did you buy?

I couldn't really hear Kalimba in those tracks you posted - maybe subtle Marimba

In Native Instruments West Africa about the closest you'll get to Marimba is the Balafon (which is the African instrument that Marimbas are descended from - Marimbas started in Central America), however, if you have NI West Africa I suspect you have Komplete, and therefore Kontakt. Look in the Kontakt Factory Library: Orchestral > VSL Percussion > Marimba. Also look in the Kontakt Factory Library: World > Metallophones > Kalimba

Without knowing your budget - here's a few options for Kalimba:

Orange Tree Sample Grand Kalimba http://www.orangetreesamples.com/kalimba $39.95

Cinesamples Cinebells : http://cinesamples.com/products/cinebells/ $99 features Kalimba and a whole bunch of other stuff. The video isn't the best demonstration of its sound quality though.

Soniccouture: Array Mbira: http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products ... ray-mbira/ $99 Has even more range (5 octaves) than a Kalimba.

Soundiron: http://www.soundiron.com/instruments/tu ... n/kalimba/ Kalimba $24

And the only Marimba I know of:
And then there's 8dios glass marimba http://8dio.com/?btp_product=glass-marimba $49
