BONES wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2019 11:26 pm Really? Given that we only get 6 presets, I am surprised at the lack of variety. I am actually quite underwhelmed. I think the demo is too stripped back, like Output's Signal demo, and you can't really get any sort of feel for the instrument. Only one preset, for example, makes any use of the Motion sequencers, although you can play around and add them into any of the others. Still, I am going to have to seek out a lot more demos and have a good listen before I decide if it offers anything over Substance for us.
Thanks for the message.

We do ultimately think the DEMO is quite fair, given that we are actually giving away over 400MB of multi-sampled content for completely free :tu:

You are getting 6 presets, each of which has up to 4 multi-sampled and different sound sources included, along with the entire instrument feature list - allowing you to see and test the workflow.

If we were to give away much more than 400MB of content for free, we unfortunately feel we'd be giving away too much, and additionally it would drastically increase the download size. So it's kind of a trade off and we genuinely did what we felt was fair and the best scenario for everyone :tu:

I do think that we must be only 1 of 2 or 3 companies actually giving any any DEMO at all for a Kontakt Player based instrument? And our goal here was to help you guys and to give you an idea (albeit brief) of what to expect.

I'd recommend checking out the 40 audio demos on the product page here: https://www.wavealchemy.co.uk/bassynth/pid190/

Apart from the first audio demo, all of the others are simply BASSYNTH presets I recorded directly from the main audio output of BASSYNTH with zero post processing at all. Each from a single instance. Even this only covers about 2% of what is possible, but it gives you a very broad scope of what to expect, across many different styles of sounds :D

You can also check out these two videos here for more audio and behind the scenes footage:

https://youtu.be/OyD0_h9mp2w

https://youtu.be/sWRyF1XIe-0

And finally, we offer a 7-day return policy, so essentially you can test the full instrument for 7 days :tu:

What surprised me wasn't so much the amount of content but the similarity of the presets. e.g. I think 4 out of 6 include a kick drum sample, something I would never, ever use in a bass patch. It gives the impression that if you spend the money you'll get a whole lot of patches that sound similar and just a few things that are a bit more interesting.

It's hard to please everyone, though. There were a number of people complaining because the Sektor demo included all 4GB of sample content that comes with the full version, for example. I just wonder here if the presets you've chosen for the demo are showing the instrument in the best light? One change that would improve it is if we could change the samples in each oscillator.

There's a lot of demo sounds in the vids and on their site. It's pretty cool that they even give a demo for a Kontakt instrument, there's not many devs doing that.
I think the demo is more to give you an idea how it sounds and works for you in your projects.
More BPM please

If that's the case, then it definitely doesn't work for me. Yet I kind of think that it should, given some of the demo sounds I've heard. All the demo shows me is that it doesn't go as deep as Substance, nor does it seem as flexible, which makes me think that I probably wouldn't use it in preference to Substance (which we use a lot). Maybe that's all there is to it and I should just walk away?

I'm using core i5 quad 3.4~3.8GHz
BASSYNTH have CPU usage is quite high. around 20~40%.
In my case,using Kontakt 6 full,Studio One 4.5,Bitwig 3.
If all effects kill, and Motion off, and some Layers and Voices off.
In this case CPU usage is under 10%.But sound qualityis going poor.
Please tell me how to settings for low CPU usage.

BASSYNTH is very open-ended in terms of CPU, since each individual Voice is able to load up to 6 effects, plus master effects and send effects. In short, this means that you are able to load up to 32 effects simultaneous if you wanted to! For presets that use a lot of effects (specifically the new Kontakt 6 Replika Delay or new Kontakt 6 Reverb), CPU will increase accordingly.

For example, loading the INIT preset here on a 5 year old, old generation CPU test machine yields a CPU usage of just 4%, with 4 sound sources loaded and Eq and saturation and filtering per voice.

My advice would be, simply turn off the Replika Delay / Reverb on any factory presets and you'll see a dramatic CPU decrease. Try the 'Digital Delay' type of IR reverb as these are much much lighter. I believe Native Instruments are aware of the CPU usage of these new effects (Replika and new Reverb), and hopefully they will optimise these.

Another tip - be sparing with unison voices, since this is available per Sound Source. I.e there is unison available per sound source / voice. Or use effects on the master, rather than lots of effects on individual voices :tu:

As said above, we left CPU quite open-ended, which opens up sound design capabilities a lot for those that want ridiculous amounts of effects per voice. You can also actually tun off the entre effects section which will dramatically reduce CPU :tu:

We'll see what we can do about the Demo in the future, but the issue with increasing the size of the demo (more sounds) is that people will then complain about a huge download size for the Demo. In fact we've already received numerous people asking for a smaller sized demo :D

I don't want to go to much in depth about comparing BASSYNTH to other instruments, but I'd strongly disagree and say the exact opposite - that BASSYNTH is much more versatile in many ways - including the sound. :phones:

Have a read of the sound sources we recorded and compare - since this is what sets this apart from the crowd. It provides an incredibly vast sonic palette that covers vintage synths, modern hybrids, modular gear, gritty FM synths etc. On top of that we have hundreds of live instrument sources, such as acoustic brass sections, solo instruments, double bass etc/ Over 60 unique bass guitar patches, mallets, hundreds of transients, foley / noise, custom built instruments such as a 'Bass Veena' (only one of these exists in the world), sounds that have been re-amped through speakers, bass amps, or recorded in large spaces. Sources recorded to analogue tape and re-pitched using analogue varispeed. Processed e-pianos, gongs, oscillators recorded from pretty much every synth worth a mention, scannable wavetables. I could go on... This is a project that took 2 full years, hundreds of recording sessions, many musicians and probably one of the most diverse collection of instruments and synths ever recorded.

If you don't see the value in these sources, then I'd say that BASSYNTH is not for you. Which is fine too of course :)

If there's a certain style of sound you're not hearing in the audio demos, then feel free to send me an example of what you'd like to hear, and I'll be happy to quickly re-create it or provide some presets in a similar style. We have over 50 audio demos on the product page now, with more being added, but of course this still only shows an extremely small percent of what is possible with the instrument - since we have so many sound sources to work with, along with very in depth sound sculpting paramaters per voice.

It may be brilliant but I find the price is out of reach, even with the loyalty discount.
Also, 11GB sound library is just too big on storage space. I'm looking for much smaller libraries these days since I started using small SSDs.

Ok, so we've created a ton more audio demos to showcase some of the sounds within BASSYNTH. You can listen below. Note that each example is just a single instance preset of BASSYNTH:

As I indicated previously, that doesn't impress me. I am very much a less is more kinda guy. I am also unimpressed by long lists of vintage gear but there seems to be a lot of FM stuff in your demos, which broadens the palette considerably.
If you don't see the value in these sources, then I'd say that BASSYNTH is not for you. Which is fine too of course :)
I think that's where I am at with it. I have dug into the demo a bit more and discovered more depth to the instrument, which at least matches Substance and probably exceeds it, and the 50-odd demos show off some really nice sounds. There is definitely a lot of variety in there. If I didn't already have Substance, I'd be all over this but there is way too much overlap to justify having both at the moment, I'm afraid.

I purchased Bassynth on Fridayand am amazed by its sound quality and implementation as a whole. I have basically all of the major bass instruments and synths: Trillian + Omnisphere, Massive X, Avenger, Serum, Rapid, Modo Bass but the quality of sound and presets and playability of Bassynth is amazing. Have been using it for three days now and inspired me to make songs really quickly.
