I find this with all of UA stuff. I do like their plugins (Own all except the multi-fx and this), but I find the included presets to be a great example of ‘Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should’ :tu:

i concur
tbh, i was quite perplexed that to my taste the majority of presets (90%?) are quite dreadful

imho typical example of too much possibilities leading to destroyed sounds

imho another example where u-he shines: imho best, most amazing presets in their products

are your loudspeakers still working ? ;-))

so, as another user already said:
forget the presets and design your own
definitely less depressing ;-)

i can't help but being under the impression, that this product has been rushed out

the lack of devine/stockhausen presets, who normally make presets for most of UA plugins,
semms to me an indication as quite some small and little bugs or misbehaviours

is this here the right place to report bugs/wishes/complaints ?

i haven't found a dedicated UA forum here on KVR
neither anything at UA homepage
i i won't bother PA...

are the developers reading this thread?

PA is ignoring me via mail and facebook after asking where my monthly voucher is.... UA im sorry i guess imma pass atm sadly

Yes.
@thelizard
ah, cool!

some first findings:

tooltip for MIDI input
@ N it reads:
"Note: normalized value of the mini Note […]"

i suppose "mini" should rather be "MIDI", n'est pas?

ditto for V - Velocity

-----
copy/paste for modulators would be nice

------
no undo ???
logic's undo kinda works...occasionally...mostly not...
imho every synth needs a dedicated multistep undo/redo
--------
there is something funky with the openGL implementation (on mac):

when lion's gui is open and active the whole comuter grafics become sluggish
(as has already been reported here if i recall correctly)

not always but occasionally

so for example, having logic with lion open
switch over to chrome/safari for reading KVR
scrolling and the whole graphic has become sluggish

that's on a mac mini 2012, i7, hisierra with logicX
never had this happen with any other gui

turning openGL off, seems to cure the problem

speaking of:
isn't apple going to drop openGL next month ?

more to come...as i walk myself through the manual...

Any more of the 99 dollar codes going around?

And is that for buying direct from the plugin maker?

filters selfresonating aliasing:

a)
when the OSC are set to 0 in the mixer and/or switched off
the filter will not get into selfresonation...

imho it should, but well...

b)
when OSC is switched on, and set at 0.1% in the mixer
one could drive the filter (alone) into selfresonation

selfresonation only works when DRIVE is engaged (??)

c)
those filtertypes that are able to selfresonate (MS LP, MA HP, LADDER LP/HP/BP 12/24)
have quite hefty and hearable aliasing artefacts beginning with around 8k

d)
increasing oversampling helps
but only a little bit, aliasing artefacts are still hearable as of 8x Oversampling

in any case:
the filters seem to have aliasing

test scenario:
default preset
OSC1: the forms
mixer: OSC1=0.1%
filter: drive on, 70%, cutoff to taste, RES=100%

btw, another filter "thing"

there seems to be somemthing buffered in the filter settings which does not get cleared
when for example switching presets

changing a preset, i can sometimes clearly hear the previous setting the first time i hit a note
the second time it engages the correct sound (as seen in the settings)

that is for buying directly from plugin-alliance
those codes are plugin alliance codes

Ah OK cheers.

Re people saying the worst presets. I'd say Melda's MSoundFactory although it's still in beta so I'm hoping the stupid random word named fairly useless presets aren't indicative of the final released product. I haven't used their other synth, MPowerSynth. Does that come with decent presets?

Yes. With and without filters, there is aliasing at 8x oversampling

Yes. With and without filters, there is aliasing at 8x oversampling
and ditto for nearly all Oscillators
they all seem to be quite aliasing happy
also interesting: Oversampling does not seem to make a big difference
i.e.: foldback frequencies are clearly hearable

on some OSCs (like PULSAR, if i recall correctly) oversampling seems to be more effective
but on most i don't hear that much on a difference, well...

p.s.:
this should be actually something with which can be dealt
see u-he...
it's not as if u-he's osc/filters are completely aliasingfree, but
quite good and nice in this regards...

Anyone else struggling to get a basic punchy pluck sound? I normally do this to test out the quality of the filters and am only getting a weak quite flat sound.

I tried bypassing onboard filters/envelopes and putting cytomics the drop after lion triggering with midi and am getting very punchy nice sounds so its clearly not a problem with the lions oscillators(which have very impressive possibilities!)

no issue like this with u-he synths or massive x etc. maybe needs some more filter/envelope love? anyone?

Post

> Anyone else struggling

yes, you're not alone
this lion semms to be quite a tame cat...

i also find the filters quite weak
no "fullsome" punchiness...

...maybe the reason for those brutal havoc presets?...
...pure speculation...

Hi, yes, sorry for the few days absence. I went to a family wedding while having a million other issues crop up (not the least of which was finding out that one of our cars won't start after the tropical storm hit).

We're working on fixing reported bugs. Sending bug reports to PA is the best, as they keep a JIRA list of all reported bugs and tech support tickets for us (any videos, photos, bug reproduction instructions, etc. will be attached to the reports). This makes it a lot easier to stay focused on the bugs instead of getting lost in either negative opinions or other forum noise. I do try to find the bug reports in here, but please don't be surprised if a random post on page 38 gets lost in the chatter.

As a reminder: we have a public beta up that fixed the broken oscillator quantization along with the worst filter bugs:
https://unfilteredaudio.com/pages/beta
These were regressions that came about from an ill-advised, last-minute optimization. Importantly, many presets with arpeggiation sounded very off because of the broken quantization.
