Yes, that will certainly be an important reason why people see new plugins as just another plugin.

Maybe plugin devs should start using quota like they do in the petrol industry?

This is certainly an important point. This is maybe why smaller devs seem to be doing better - less overheads and people to pay.

Looking forward to trying this now

Better? Depends how you look at it.

In my experience these one dev companies are not very good at communication, support or business decisions. Software becomes abandonware, communication is sometimes really bad (coders are not good at communication). Development or bug fixes can also stall because one person has to do everything. Sometimes a certain aspect might be of less quality (like the UI) but then the reply is often "with what money do you think I can afford a designer?".

Typical problems you get when one man has to do everything as one man cannot be a good developer, good designer, good communication guy, businessman, support guy etc. In a bigger company these are all specialist jobs (in house or via external consultancy).

Bigger companies can build activa to overcome difficult years and have enough resources so they can keep all aspects (development, design, communication, support) on a good level. Of course you need to get at that level.

Anyway, I had some lesser experiences with one dev projects lately and am going to think twice before buying from them. Might be that other people will also come to that conclusion.

Not as a general rule (I might also explicitly buy from them to explicitly support them - starving artist etc) but keeping in mind future problems that might arise as abandonware, slow development, bad communication etc.

As income from making music gets more difficult - and hobbyists tend to be more careful with how much they need and how much they spend - then the market for all those satellite companies dependent on people using their tools to create becomes more volatile. I don’t feel the tools that Waves or now PA are offering in their sales are inferior just because they are trying out new marketing/business strategies. And PA with their voucher system are really respecting their loyal customer base. So good on them!
Really looking forward to giving this SEM a bashing. Interested how it compares to the competition.

Absolutely, i suppose it depends on the dev in question. FXpansion has abandoned loads of its products in recent years. I do like companies like fuse and black rooster audio -- they have been very quick to respond and i love their stuff.

Is there any hope of closing one of the bx_Oberhausen threads so we don't have two different discussions going on simultaneously in the same forum about the same product?

No. We like multitasking. ;)

Holy Cow... I put the voice to 32 and turned on the union. Boom, 90% CPU usage... WTF??? :nutter: I'm using i7-4790k, and I have only run out of CPU when there is like 20 tracks of high quality VSTi playing along with a complete mastering chain.

It doesn’t sound as good as the DIVA Obie and lacks the features of the Arturia SEM.
Thankfully as a DIVA and Arturia SEM user, I won’t be needing this.

cant even get this to install using individual file OR the PA manager tool ... had similar issues when PA re-issued Thorn, but I was able to find where the installer had shoved the files that time... not so in this case... it LOOKS like the install is putting them in and then immediately deleting them upon exit of the install routine. Really weird. I am running the install via right click "run as admin" on Win7 64bit, etc... and this ain't my first rodeo... just odd stuff...
but if the CPU hit is as big as what hhuang9611 is describing, I wont be able to use this anyway!

(FWIW, I did open a ticket with PA. Just was interested in seeing if I was the only one experiencing this level of shenanigans on the install...)
edit- as of april 11, no help from PA ticketing... maybe by the time Live 10 supports vst3 (which DID install just fine on my system...), bx_oberhausen will be on mark down? ...definitely can wait ;P

Pretty much my opinion too. Nice instrument an sich but I actually prefer Arturia SEM.
