That’s a great synth list. I also have VPS Avenger and it is indeed a great instrument. Spire as well I have and often use.

I’m a little surprised that uHe Diva is not on your list, that is suppose to be the best of the best currently.
Oh of course I have Diva. :)

It is indeed great but I do gravitate more towards complex synths and more untraditional sounds (as may have become evident from the different audio clips I posted).

I do have to admit I've neglected Diva for a while. So many other systems to explore. I did use it a lot right after it was released to the public.

The only "major" synths that I'm aware of that I don't own are Sylenth and Zebra. Neither has been in my taste sound wise and I've tweaked both demos _a lot_. Oh and I also don't own Serum but that's only because I haven't had time to play with the demo yet. I've actually avoided it on purpose as I'm pretty sure I will have to purchase it if I try it.
FathomSynth wrote: Sat Dec 22, 2018 5:32 pm So the next couple weeks will be a good time for you to post what major features you really want to see in a synth.
Christmas is coming up so I'll be preoccupied now for about a week forward but will try to remember to get back to you with a proper detailed list of wishes.

Cheers!

1.) Apple / Camel Audio Alchemy. This is the beast I've definitely spent the most time with as I've done quite a bit of sounds for it over the past few years. I know it almost completely inside out, warts and all. It's an extraordinarily capable synth on almost all fronts. Here is a little demo of what I did last time for Alchemy.
The sound @ 1.11 is awesome. Could you recreate this in Fathom? or maybe even another synth?

Cheers

P.S. That piano sound is impressive too!
That sound at 1.11 is probably possible to do in other synthesizers as well. Perhaps not that easy to keep it that "smooth" and yet so vocal like but if you are ready to accept a bit more "raspy" droid like effects then it's fairly easy to create by bitcrushing any waves with a lot of harmonics and then just apply some vocal type filtering (a few bandpass filters are enough. You can look up formant filtering and get a few starting points). I did use Alchemy's additive mangling abilities to get that sound, if I recall correctly, but most of the interest comes from how all those harmonics interact with the filtering.

Now that I think about it, this type of sound should be pretty easy to create in Fathom.

As for the piano sound, just download FabFilter Twin 2 demo and you'll find it in the presets. It's called bM Grand. :)

Cheers!

Have you seen one of these

Pretty inspirational, from a development perspective.
How much you can do with so little, and how little you have to do to gain so much, and how much you have to gain to do so little, and...
It comes with a toaster, apparently.
As I always say, the closer technology comes to making me a sandwich, the better.
Now, I don't expect fathom to be making me a sandwich any time soon, so over the years I've invented a robotics based farming and culinary system intended to solve several global (and interplanetary) resource disparities, but unfortunately that requires generating some capital. First for a sandwich.
But I digress.

I had one of those. This was much more inspiring than the bigger models. Maybe because of its limitation. I made my own cable to distribute the voices to stereo and you could do perfect granular synthesis by hand, just moved the start/end sliders in a small distance at the same time through the sample while triggering notes fast via Midi. You can hear the effect here:

Sounds awesome. I love granular synthesis.

I hear real-time time stretching for harmonization, too.

Reminds me of this custom development at MIT last year, for Jacob Collier.

Well, my program spit out chords fast, speeding up and down, and the stretch is done by hand moving slowly through the sample. The whole sentence had to fit into the tiny memory...
Granular nowadays is much more sophisticated, but the only thing you would need to get this effect with a recent sampler, is triggering Midi like I did, and have short one shots who's start and end point need to be modulated by a 14-bit Midi faders at the same time moving these point through a longer sample...
I should start to make a S-612 emulation in Max/MSP...

Maybe throw in some new oscillator types

Karplus-Strong
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karplus–S ... _synthesis

For example the basis of the free VST-Zone - Strum
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/strum-by-vst-zone

Sort of like granular synthesis using very short delay with feedback. Can't be really difficult to implement (though my programming years are way behind me). Very nice for string based sounds like guitar and bass (and more).

And....since I and others mentioned it:

Granular synthesis
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granular_synthesis

With oscillators, samples, wavetables or any audio module as snippet sources.

For a really nice (and free) implementation, check out Vasily Makarov's PolyGAS
