This ended up getting re-designed and pulled about so many times, it's ridiculous. I'm pleased with the result so far, though.

It's "layer 1" because it actually carries on, but the second part isn't finished yet. Still, it's self-contained enough to share. The full version will probably be on my next album.

This isn't my usual choice of listening material, but I really enjoyed it. Great percussion, both the glitched and clean parts. The chiptune stuff sounds very good but the acid sounds are my favourite parts, particularly in the last third of the track. Damn near woke me up.
Good work

Thanks seismic1. glad you enjoyed it! You will like the second section that I'm making, it focusses more on the acid and less on the breaks. I'm really interested in trying for longform, almost sonata-like composition with electronic sounds. It's something that hasn't got a whole lot of play at all, really.
The acid is the TT-303 Bassbot, a fairly faithful and affordable physical 303 clone. There's also some acid from Sugar Bytes' Egoist in there. I really dig the squarewave sounds it can make

love the 8-bit sewer [level] contrast from about 0:50 onward and from about 2:30, the acid's starting to kick in
..see you at the finish line. good luck!

Organized chaos is exactly what I was going for, thanks I threw so much stuff out because it may have sounded good, but it disturbed the flow. It's way more satisfying to ride the edge between order and chaos, but it took a lot of restructuring, moving bits around, and as I said, a lot of stuff getting deleted.
3ee, I'm not sure what part you mean, but I'm guessing the bit-crushed sort of beepy echoey riff, which is good old Chipsounds using the Nintendo wave channel with lots of modulation of the waveform modifier.
Thanks for listening.

sounding sweet, albeit very organized to my ears.
sounds good on headphones.
the sound at the end with little/no drums is great, i'd extend that. as in, give the drums some very pronounced stops where the chips get center stage.
if you want some inspiration on disorganized chaos sometime...i can provide some, rofl.

You've provided it already, I love listening to No Fun No Ki. I miss the jazz-tinged electronic music, it was blowing up big in the 90's, remember when Ninja Tune were the greatest thing since sliced bread?nasenmann wrote:sounding sweet, albeit very organized to my ears.

That sounds a bit like like The Prodigy mixed with 90ies acid jungle!

Squarepusher and the Prodge Always a welcome comparison. I think it's the "sync screamer" riff that really reminds me of the Prodigy. They sure know how to make a beat go off.
Thanks for listening guys!
