I think this is true based on what I read, but I honestly don't know the difference between 1st gen and 2nd.

I don't know for sure about the donation, but I believe that they're all 2nd gen now - I have a 2i4 2nd gen (highly recommended). This link to OS compatibility may be useful:

The 2nd gen have some improvements to the build, the gain staging and the drivers.

Yes, I also read in their website they are all seem to be 2nd generation
