I disagree with this point. I personally prefer modeling technology which allows for faithful recreation of vintage instruments. I don't want or need to spend an endless amount of time tweaking tones for usability. I'd prefer realism. A good instrument in the hands of a talented individual allows for the creative force of the person to put the sound into action. This is where seasoned musicians excel. As well where those who work professionally live can shine the most performing covers. Which is where the real money is. The whole point of creating a new instrument
is to offer something that either sounds unique, or is so superior
to competing products, that it becomes unique in stature,
and possibly sales, or size of the userbase.
For synthesizers not using huge sample sets,
neither of these results depends on the bits.
Do you still use 32 bit plugins?

Not sure what bit depth has to do with musicianship, tapper mike wrote:I disagree with this point. I personally prefer modeling technology which allows for faithful recreation of vintage instruments. which I am a big fan of, but skilled manipulation of the modwheel,
pitchbender, playing to velocity layers, channel pressure,
and aftertouch, on a synthesized sound, is no less musicianship
than real woodwind trills, guitar stringbends, and the pedals on
a Steinway.
I also appreciate modeling, and 'real instrument' sounds,
but we live in an era where new synth sounds are augmenting
orchestral sounds, and often enough, replacing them.
And technology now allows keyboard and electric guitar
musicians (or children) to practice quietly, if the need
or desire exists, not the case historically,
or comically, in cliched 'screechy child violinist' skits.
Cheers

Reaktor 5 runs well in 32bit linux/wine, both standalone, and using reaperinkwarp wrote:
the thought alone of having to upgrade my music setup fills me with a dreadful lethargy. ( i could spend the rest of my music-making existence in reaktor alone: )
to host the plugin. You can boot linux from external drives,
so it's very workable (and inexpensive) to maintain dual systems far into
the future. And PAE enabled linux kernels erase microsloths bogus 32bit
3 gig ram limit.
Long live the Reaktor User Library!

I can just see those musicians who bought a Fairlight or Synclavier for 10s of thousands of pounds when they came out suddenly realise the music they created was a complete sham due to the lack of bits

eyeToons should be hailed to delete all those hits from the ancient 32bit,
16bit, and 8bit eras. Terrible waste of bandwidth hosting such lo-fi
monstrosities! Has anyone got a bit depth chart of beatable objects?

There is no need to use x64 except you load huge sample libraries.
The sound quality in x64 vs x32 is EXACTLY the same.
The performace of some x64 dlls can be slightly (around 5%) faster, because the CPU has more registers available.

apparently some people wanted a system update so we could have another go round at it
subject appears generally convivial, we can probably tap a main artery.

I recently uninstalled LIVE 32 bit version manually and re installed the 64 bit version now all my plugins are 64bit and couldn't be happier .faster loading and maximising the use of my 64 bit Mac

Yes, i do. i have both 32 bit and 64 bit hosts and even separate machines some 32, some 64bit.

I was 'forced' to switch lately because of a Soundtoys/Waves bug.
http://support.soundtoys.com/customer/e ... -bit-users
So for me it was either no Soundtoys in some of my bigger projects or testing the 64bit world.
But I guess I would have switched anyways any time soon, all I need is 64bit ready and the stuff which is 32bit only I really don't need.
Or do I? Which VSTs are really exceptional and 32bit only?
