You can use the inline mode instead of using two instances.

Depends what you want to do with it. When you encode you get the M out the left and the S out the right, if you want to process them differently before recombining with another instance in decode. If you just wanna make small M/S volume changes then do it all with one instance in Inline mode.

so lets say i wanna add some EQing to the Sides

and i wanna Compress the middle

what are the steps to do that with MSED ?

encode, then apply compression to left channel only, then apply EQ to right channel only, then decode.

That's the problem with the MSED sandwich , you need a stereo EQ and/or a stereo compressor etc..

In Reaper this can be easily handled using the plugin pin matrix (to route channels). I imagine other daws have a similar feature?

In modular host like Audiomulch or Bidule even easier.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Just use it within a modular VST like VSTForx or Minihost Modular...

Post

Or when you don't have an easy modular host, use Melda free EQ and Compressor set the EQ to side and the compressor to Mid and forget about the MSED altogether :D

the only way i can think logically of how to use MSED
in logic, without having plugins that have independent knobs for left and right,is to have
2 copies of the same Stereo track

one with MSED with only the Middle engaged

the other With only Sides engaged

this way i can put different FX(I'm thinking Chorus for the sides) for the middle and Sides

would this be considered as MS processing

Yes, although when you use a stereo plugin, it does twice the calculation (usually).

A Voxengo query and an MSED feature request:

1) Aleksey, did you take the Forum section of your website down recently? If so, that's a shame, as it was the first place I went to to contact you for support etc. I can understand if it wasn't getting much traffic and you'd rather users email you or contact you here though.

2) Still using MSED most days in mastering. Something that has been driving me nuts for a while though, the R/L Balance meter is labelled R/L Balance meter, and that just seems totally backwards... ;)

Post

Hi! Forums became a low-traffic pages like 5 years ago already, company forums became a thing of past. Beside that, as Google normalizes traffic it sends to the web site based on its site ranking, it was more efficient to remove forum pages so that all other pages get more Google traffic - this worked as expected after removal of forum pages.

R/L balance is correct - it is right channel's loudness divided by left channel's loudness. So, if the left channel is louder, you get negative dB values, and the meter bar to the left.
