Same remark that with the 'analog sound' thread : Wich Simmons ? Some were pure analog ( SDS800/200), and can only be emulated with VA techniques, some were hybrid ( analog toms and 12b samples), and some were sampled based. There is not ONE global Simmons sound. There are many different ones, depending of the era you want to adress. I know a drum machine that can get close to the Simmons analog sounds however, and that you can feed with any Simmons samples for the sample part as well. It will not however recreate the exact circuitry of the early digital -sample based- Simmons units 1:1 for example. For those who are interested in such machines, only proper emulations can get them a step further ( Again, if properly done )

Giving this thread a bump as I'm urgently after some serious, big 80s simmons toms/snare sounds.

The main two mentioned on this thread look and sound GREAT, but both are Windows only (VSDSX STILL hasn't released OSX version) and I'm currently on Mac OS.

Can anyone recommend anything? Need to get a track finished today :)

Sampled, but since you're in a hurry.

Arturia's Spark has Simmons and a free trial.

On the sample front there's also these from Samples From Mars. Their free samples pack contains some samples from the full Simmons pack.

IIRC

Computer Music magazine has the CM-505 its entirely Synth based no samples
i think it can do the Simmons thing. Linplug Made it

Its 32 bit on the Mac....and "32bit Lives" cannot make it work

but Maybe you're on a PC..
If your plugin is a Synth-edit/synth-maker creation, Say So.
If not Make a Mac version of your Plugins Please.

The free MartinVST - Hexagon85 comes close, but the Tom control doesn't allow for total elimination of the built in white noise. Also, the noise itself is not so good in my opinion. (sorry Martin). 8)

Donated money and waiting for the email. I hope it will work with 64bit Cubase without much hassle and a 64bit version update will follow some day. I watched all the videos and listened to all the SoundCloud files I could find and it was an instant must have for me. The emulation is so accurate and it sounds so analogish or digital mixed up like you want. Aly makes such great emus. Already got the Linn and this thing rocks too. I don't own the Sega Megadrive emu but this thing rocks too. he is a very passionated and gifted programmer and owns that freaky nerd gen needed to do such niche things in such authentic quality. :D :tu:

He posted on his Facebook page at the end of April about his Samplight VST being in the final stages of development. There's a video up on YouTube too.

Did that one ever get updated to native 64-bit? I would pick it up if so. VPROM gets used regularly here.

I own the PolyAna and this thing is absolutely amazing! Sure...can make drums with it.

This is also great:
AudioDamage / Axon2

And absolutely dope as a pure synthesized drum machine is this baby:
SONIC CHARGE / Mircotonic

Got the VSDS-X by Aly James shipped today and I love it. Works fine on Win7 Cubase8 64bit and really rocks. Every instrument slot has a separate out for your DAW mixer and the sound is just awesome analogish. Sounds real old (can´t explain better). So many movie tracks, especially italian trash and gore movies from the early 80th had that drum-sound-design. Reminds me also a lot of the drum sounds early THROBBING GRISTLE records had. Freaky stuff for sure. Of course you can make italo disco tracks with it too :D  :D

Thank you!
